Leaving negative feedback for buyers who back out of deals on the exchange??

I've had a few people change their minds, and while it's a little annoying, the fact is that there are many buyers, in all types of business transactions, who have difficulty making a decision and sticking with it. It's not worth it to take it personally. As far as money orders go, I usually only accept that form of payment, if the buyer sends it promptly, and with a tracking number.

I've been on the selling end of this scenario several times. I have never felt like feedback needed to be sent the flakes way. I do however add them to my ignore list to avoid getting into the same situation with them again. Seems simple and appropriate to me.

Better to have them flake out before a deal is done than having to arrange for a return shipment and refund when the person has buyer's remorse.

I think the rule on this is wrong. You make a deal, you should finish it.

Just because money does not change hands does not mean a deal was not agreed to.

Pretty annoying when this happens.

I believe I am very cautious with stating I will take an item.

I don't recall ever changing my mind.

I have had a deal not work out after money was exchanged. I received payment for a custom, then a snag arose with shipping instructions for cross border shipping. Specifically, the buyer asked me to state a value 70% less on a custom knife. This would have been illegal for me, and limited the insurance I could have purchased to protect my self.

I refunded, and we canceled the deal. He sent me an additional amount to cover the hastle, which I returned. No hard feelings. He was a complete gentleman, and I would deal with him again, if not for the cross border tax/import fees.

I've had payers flake. I've held a knife for one, who really wanted a knife, but could not afford it yet. It took him weeks longer than the month agreed upon. He asked me to ship. Told me the money order was sent. when it did not show up, he said his old lady must have forgot. But he came though, and got a great deal.

Bummer when people flake. I feel like there are a lot of emotionally stunted people buying and selling.

Sorry, but we are not going to spend more energy going after people that inconvenience someone. That is absurd. What we do already is if there is a documented pattern of flaking behavior in someone, that is something that can be handled and often is worthy of an infraction or a ban. If you go out and issue someone a negative for a deal that did not happen, you will earn yourself a 5-10 point infraction for abusing the iTrader system.
Just as people need to honor their word, they need to start looking into the people they are dealing with and take some responsibility for their own situations, use paypal correctly, and start being completely honest when the SHTF.

I'm sitting on 4 knives that people have flaked out on without another word.
When's it okay to sell them without concerns of retribution in feedback?
I've got to move these things. ;)

The next day. Give it 12 hours maximum, then sell to the next buyer. If a buyer tells you it may take, say, 24 hours to pay, give him a break, but don't sit on it any longer. If they aren't ready to deal, they shouldn't be holding you up.

As far as retribution, if they haven't sent money before you sell to someone else, and they leave negative iTrader feedback, they are asking for an infraction. We haven't been pushing this, but too many flakes lately and we really have to consider it.

Good info as I had a few sales in one day that were dragged out long after the "i'll take it" was posted. "I can't PM you please e-mail" and so I did and 6 hours with no reply but in the meanwhile my thread is effectively closed by the "i'll take it". Eventually both knives sold but one went into 3 days of dittsing around. I even wrote still available in the thread and then the guy would come on and post "I still want this" but even more hours passed without a PM or an e-mail let alone a payment. How much can you factor in the time zone effect?

One guy in another thread offered me more than $100.00 less than I was asking in my thread . Nothing like announcing that this item is wayyy over priced. I considered that a sabotage and wrote to him asking him to delete or reword the post. He did but it could have been ugly. After all, the knife sold for my asking price.

Anyway after that round of sales I've started to think about adding all kinds of caveats to my sale threads. To my mind though the seller with all the qualifiers comes across as a potential solid pain or at the least a control freak. I'm glad for the exchange but it ain't always a fun process.

In a situation where the potential buyer can't seem to make up their mind, it is frustrating, but it isn't like it is a life or death situation...
This is a hobby for most of us, so I can't see the benefit in getting all stressed out and pissed off just because someone changed their mind.

Just add them to the list of "never deal with" and carry on. No, IMHO there is no reason to leave feedback.

It would be nice if everyone kept their word. It wasn't that long ago a hand shake was all that was needed in doing a business deal, but like a lot of other things that have changed over the years, those days are long gone.
Granted, there are still people that conduct themselves in that manner, but it's nothing like it was in the years past.

Face it, the success of our hobby, the number of newbies unfamiliar with our traditions, all lead to these misunderstandings. Don't let it spoil the deal -- or the fun.

I've dealt with guys that whenever I see them selling, I check out the sale. I know the deal will be quick and the knife will be well worth the price.

Newbies? Give them a chance to show that newbie does not mean dumb kid. Just don't be a sucker. I've heard of people asking to make payments. Not good. Not even good for them. It means their eyes are bigger than their wallets. "Lead us not into temptation."

By the way, someone lowballs you in the thread, Report Post and let the mods handle it. I will remove that post and let the buyer know that's not how we do business. That's Interfering with an Exchange Thread.

Wisdom right there.

I think it should be allowed in I-Trader, so others can look at the persons feedback and see if they have a history of welching.

Not even necessary. Instead of iTrader, go to FEEDBACK / GBU and do a search. If people are fed up with flakes, they should post there. iTrader is only for completed deals, money or property sent, and that's how it has to be. Too many variables otherwise.

A while back, I tried to buy a knife from a member here. I said "I will take it" and sent him an an email (listed under his profile). Several emails and several frustrating days later he sold it to the second guy in line. Turns out all my emails were going to his spam folder. Sometimes that happens and it is of no fault to anyone. I am of the old school way of thinking in that when a deal is verbally agreed to it should be adhered too.
