A new member here wanted to trade with me. We arranged he should ship his knives first and I'll ship when they arrive: LUCKILY. That was last week...
I still don't know if he legit or not, because of several excuses he didn't ship last week when he said and still hasn't shipped but is trying to each day.
I won't ship until he does and may call it off soon if he doesn't ship.

On one hand, he doesn't deserve good feedback. On the other he admits this is his very first trade and maybe doesn't get how important it is to ship on time?

What to do?

I personally would just call the deal off at this point. Posting about pending transactions in GBU sometimes makes people emotional and if he reads that you’re considering leaving less than positive feedback before it arrives, it might cause them to mess with you.

My vote is call it off, then leave the neutral explaining what happened. Why deal with the anxiety of the unknown?

I'd wait to see if he actually ships. When you get the item, check it over and then ship your end of the deal. If he doesn't ship, then a deal never took place, so no feedback warranted. Not sure on the Neutral feedback though.
If he agreed to the trade, the deal happened as far as I’m concerned.. but I understand some define it as a knife exchange occurring. For me, an agreement via PM is as good as a handshake and a promise. If someone doesn’t live up to it, that’s a bad deal for me.

Yeah, I usually reserve the negative feedback for something that went awry. In this case, no deal took place, even though a "digital handshake" took place. I guess that would warrant a Neutral feedback.

If neither of you have shipped, I don't think feedback is permitted yet. There used to be a rule that if money didn't change hands, then no deal happened. I'd think this applies to trades, but I'm not sure.

If it is allowed, then it's up to you. I appreciate a heads up on flakey members.
Perhaps a mod will weigh in.

That’s why I think the neutral would be fair, but yes mods would have to weigh in. The “neutral” would be a fair and objective heads up that someone flakes out of trades, as not everyone comes to search names in the GBU but everyone likely reads feedback.

You cant't leave any kind of feedback, a transaction hasn't happened.

For the time being the best you can do is start a GBU thread like you have and name the member which you haven't done.

SECTION 4 - Rules for Feedback -

5. If a deal did not happen, there is no iTrader Feedback to leave. Sorry if you were inconvenienced, but life is full of disappointments. As long as you're not out any items or money hasn't changed hands, move along. Consider improving the terms of your sales threads / read the sellers terms carefully in order to avoid this before buying.

7. Threads started in the Feedback: G, B, & U section should contain facts that support your reason for starting a thread. Remember there is a difference between opinion and fact. Keep your topic civil or hold off posting until you've composed yourself. Complaining about a person that has exercised their rights as a seller or buyer does no good, and it may backfire on you.

You may not be able to "legally" leave iTrader feedback per the forum rules if no trade takes place but you can sure as heck open up a GBU thread and name the guy so everyone is aware of who he is and takes precautions in any future dealings with him.

My question is if this trade goes through but he's delayed shipping several times now should I leave Neutral?
No feedback if no deal occurs is completely understood.

If I had shipped at the same time as him (he has no feedback so this is a good lesson to everyone), I would be crapping bricks right now.

He seems to have delayed again... It's in God's hands now.

Are you that desperate for the knife you’re getting? Why not just cancel the deal? You’d be completely justified. The guy might be stalling you while he works a cross-listing.

The guy sounds like a scammer to me. I would have already called off the deal. Clearly his word means nothing to him.

"A new member here wanted to trade with me. We arranged he should ship his knives first and I'll ship when they arrive: LUCKILY."

What kind of scammer says you can ship after you receive my item? Unreliable maybe. If he's a scammer, he's terrible at it.

I wouldn’t call him a scammer.. just fickle or lazy.

I have been fairly patient will slow shipping, but there really is no valid excuse. You don't even need to go to the PO these days. The ? In my mind would be-is this going to be the only problem with the deal?
Time to get out.
Trading is one of the more dificult transactions, and not for amateurs. Best done between those that know and trust each other.IMO
