My polished g-10 Leek arrived in the mail today. Odd thing is that there are no front markings. All the markings on the back are there. There are some X's near the thumbstud. Does that mean this knife was a second?

naggalowmo, it does seem like you did receive a 2nd. We normally "XXX" to identify them as such. Hope you didn't buy it under the pretense that it was new.

It was actually advertised as new. Is there anything I can do about it Thomas? Can I send it into Kershaw for an exchange because I don't trust the seller for an exhange, seeing as how he already lied once about his product?

BTW, Thomas, does Kershaw sell their 2nds to the public?
Kershaw has an annual weekend (always the first weekend after Thanksgiving) where we sell off our 2nd's. It is open to everyone. Yes there will be a few ZDP Leeks in this year’s sale, no you can't buy them now. It's a pretty neat time, and has become quite popular with the locals.

naggalowmo, this sound like an auction deal, of which you need to try and rectify it with your seller. Hope it works out.

Sorry to hear your misfortune, but since it was advertised as new it may not necessarily be a lie, since it cold be a new factory 2nd. Either way its a very crummy thing to do and they should rectify the problem if they have any integrity. Did you buy it from an internet knife site, or an evil place like e-bay?

Bruddy Herro. Any chance it'd be possible to buy a second by proxy? No way I'm going to be on the opposite side of the country the weekend after Turkey Day.

Hi Thomas,

Can you tell us more about the seconds weekend? How does it work? When does it start? Where? What kind of prices would one typically find on a second?

Thanks!

Sorry Bob, all 2nds are sold once a year.

It is a Friday, Saturday, Sunday affair (8:00 am-6:00 pm if I recall correctly), held right at the Kershaw factory. There are a bunch of all kinds of patterns, most with cosmetic issues. Pricing is lower than you might find on line.
It's a very fun time for us to mingle with the public. Ken Onion is usually there kissing babies and signing autographs. I do have to warn you, the line is long to get in, and starts to form 24-48 hours prior to opening (not quite like a Star Wars movie opening, but close). I have seen many folks stand in line for 3-4 hours prior to getting in. People do travel from other states to attend, and are looking for those limited sweet finds (ZDP Leeks). It gets pretty crazy for sure, but all in all a terrific knife weekend.

ok so let me get all this straight!

friday, saturday and sunday after thanksgiving every year

8am to 6pm

kershaw factory at 18600 SW Teton Ave. Tualatin, Oregon

get there early.

do i have all this right Thomas? i'll be comming from So-Cal

If you don't mind me asking a question that probably everyone but me knows the answer to, what are seconds?

Bob,
These are knives that have cosmetic flaws and imperfections. They can't be sold as new, but are in fact fully functional blades. Lots of knives with minor "scratch and dings". Most can't identify the blemishes.

There are older and discontinued knives put out for sale as well.

Thanks Thomas,

I just received a Leek 1660CGT at the beginning of the week and if I remember correctly the non-clip side of the blade is sterile and the clip side has all the markings on it. I will have to check when I get home and see if there are any X's near the thumb stud.

Oh Swell , now you have told the whole world. The line will be 5 hours long (LOL). Hey Thomas, are you going to be at the Blade show west this year ?
Dave

Thomas, I just purchased a knife off of Ebay. I is a Ken Onion leek knife model number 1660CGT. It was advertised as having S30V blade steel. There are only markings on the clip side of the blade and none on the other. There are no xxx markings on it either. Did I get taken? I haven't been able to find this model on the internet.
Thank you

BrBl5, no you didn't get taken.

The 1660CGT is a rare real deal. S30V, coarse G-10 scales. There were only 249 plain edges produced. Nice find for sure.

Welcome to the forums btw, I hope you will look to hang around some.
