Holly mackerel How did you do it?????? What type of an edge did you put on it?? From the work you posted on here before i bet the handle would be something that would fit that head.... Nice job

sasha

Hey Sasha,

Both edges are convex ground. They were originally coarsely put on with a rough file. I did those on a slack belt of a belt grinder. As traditional with the double bits, one is thinner and sharper, and the other is thicker and less sharp for "dirty" work.

As far as how I did it, I cheated a bit. Everything I did can be done by hand with enough time and enough patience. But I used a KMG grinder. It has multiple attachments.

Basically for squaring the top and bottom, I used the flat attachment. I then switched over to a slack belt, and knocked the edges of just slightly. Then, I put the 8" contact wheel on to do the entire surface finish. I went from 60 grit down to 9 micron.

I saved the convex edges for last because I did not want to cut myself :D Same deal, slack grinding, 60 grit, down to 9 micron, but then I used a leather belt to finish those off.

Sounds like a lot, but it really did not take all that long.

that is really awsome. now i am compelled to buy and refurbish or have some one refurbish an old axe rather than just buying a new one.

That's just beautiful!

And for his next episode of "PIMP MY AXE", Brian will....:D:D
