LEO knife suggestions

Opening a 110 or 112 one handed isn’t hard to learn, cowboys and truckers and carpenters have been doing it for decades. With gloves on.
It's true.

I spent 20 years in a large city police department the majority of the time in the patrol division. I carried a Buck 110 in a case on my duty belt for about 15 yrs. Never had to use it in an emergency situation. Never knew of any of my co workers who used one in an emergency either. We had an excellent fire and emt department.

For years, the setup that has worked best for me is my Benchmade Presidio 5000 Auto in my off-side pants pocket and a SAK Small Tinker in a cargo pocket for general utility.

I personally like that the Presidio is an Axis Auto, so I can easily actuate it with my off hand, and I can be reasonably certain it will lock open fully without having to worry about a flubbed manual opening.

Just my .02

As an ex-cop who use to carry Spyderco Endura’s and Police models and has lost more than I care to remember I recommend a Kabar TDI carried behind your mag pouch or an ESEE Izula or ESEE 3. 20 years later I’m still mad about that beautiful all stainless Police that got lost. I’ve never lost a fixed blade.

Spyderco Stretch 2 is like a lightweight PM2 with an FRN handle and backlock. If you want a more streamlined PM2 that might be worth a look.

Any interest in a Cold Steel American Lawman? Solid backlock folder and it has "lawman" in the name, so it's got to be perfect for an LEO.

Either can be easily modified to "wave" open if desired.

I am a firefighter in a city dept and I just got a stretch 2xl combo edge to use as a work beater. I normally carry a benchmade 710 but the stretch 2xl is just so light weight. full disclosure though the one I have has horrible fit and finish. I'm talking poor centering , uneven blade grind, and the lock bar sticks up past the scales when opened or closed. but as a beater user I like it. just don't pry with its delicate tip and ask for yours to be inspected before shipping or you might end up with a poor quality control one like me.

Carried an AFO in my sap pocket for years. You’re always doing something else when you need a knife opened. Serrations are nice too. Paired with a SAK of your choice, you’ll be well covered and lightweight.

I am a fish and game warden and harbor patrol and I carry a plain edge Spyderco Tenacious for utility and occasionally some form or auto, fixed blade or manual folder as a backup knife.
The tenacious is inexpensive, holds a decent edge for a decent amount of time and is slightly smaller than your PM2.
For a slim backup manual folding knife I usually carry a modified Spyderco Police stainless knife- it is a very thin knife that can be clipped anywhere on your gear and offers a long blade in an easy to carry package.
Good luck and stay safe

Carried a Buck 110FG for a good long time. I have a Cold Steel "Rescue Knife" in the console of my sedan now. I would probably go with a Spydie now or even an Emerson A100.

I don’t know how much EMS you encounter in your position but if you do - you might want to consider something with a blunt tip. The Spyderco Rescue was designed to assist/rescue passengers trapped with a seat belt on but it performs many other tasks well with no risk of skin puncture.
