Les George Talos or McNees Mac 2 3.5

For me it's largely a preference question.

The McNees feels much smaller, though not necessarily like a small knife. It runs on bearings versus washers which comes down to what you prefer. Les George definitely has a better clip and overall feels like a beefier, more overbuilt knife. If I had to pick one I'd probably go with the Talos but that's not because I dislike the McNees at all.

In my opinion. LG models don't translate amazing in photos. They look a bit pedestrian in design and execution. But I'll tell you this. Once it's in your hand, it's a whole different ball game. They feel amazing, everything smooth and worked over. Action and lockbar are second to none. Locked up solid, excellent geometry, heat treat and the best stonewash on the planet. Once you try a few, then you see the designs totally differently, for what they really are..

So, you're saying you like them, then...?

Didn't hurt that I got to meet him and have a chat at BSTX while he set my CC on fire. It was a pleasure.

Even a happy ending when "approved" read on the display. Boom, like hitting a triple bonus on a slot machine. lol
Getting to meet and know makers that you respect and whose work you gravitate toward is very rewarding.
I've been fortunate to have made several friends, some of whom have even visited or stayed with us in the past.

Also had a conversation with Mr. McNees. Also a really cool, down to earth kind of gentleman. I was amazed that both took the time to talk with a nobody around there. What a sport this is. :)

I agree with this completely. My love for LGs is definitely more towards the functionality and ergonomics rather than the aesthetics. The wow factor happens when you finally get one in ya hands. Just ask Blues Blues ! 😉

I will disagree with you about the "nobody" aspect. Most makers I have met have been salt of the earth types, who are good folks, the sort you enjoy having a beer or two with. Don't sell yourself short. A maker who would look down his nose at you, isn't worth knowing.

I'm very happy with my LG, Mitch. I've considered others...but I haven't quite found the next one to jump on...though I've come close.

I know nothing of the McNees knives, so can't comment.

Oh and you don't have to hold them like a sickly baby bird to avoid putting pressure on the lockbar. lol

Doesn't bother me much but it did take a little active learning on the macs.

I've heard that before, though it may have been you on here saying that somewhere else, and I've never understood it. I've never had an issue with the lockbar pressure thing. I hold the McNees the same way I do any knife and it has the snappiest action of any thumbstud knife I've ever handled and that includes VECPs. Then again I've never had that issue with any framelock so I guess I naturally hold a knife differently.

I think both knives in question are some of the best in the category you can get so can't go wrong either way. I'd suggest just buying both lol

One thing I do like about McNees is his transparency and availability. He is always posting picture of his shop and work happening there, has a weekly podcast about knives, and is a very vocal on things like being USA made and speaking out against knockoffs.

My next recommendation would be the Myna. Rivals the vecp for my overall favorite. Very snappy flipper with great ergos on the grip and the reverse tanto is a fun blade to use. I wasn’t a reverse tanto fan till I got this knife. It’s an excellent design.

One mo time
