So, skip breakfast and drink beer all day. Damn, I think I can do this. Except the skipping breakfast part. I'm still going to eat breakfast, but I think I can do the rest of it.

You can't drink beer all day long because it has calories. You have to have 16 hours a day IN A ROW with no calories. Other than that, go nuts.

For some cardio I played Dance Dance Revolution for 1.5 hrs last night. wheeee!

Everyone's body is going to have a different way it sheds fat and or weight, I tried what you do survivormind and it didn't work well, but I have seen so many people with such awesome results from leangains fo sho.

Any program has to be tailored to the individual. Some don't have the discipline to fast for 16 hours every day. I find that is usually the reason leangains doesn't work for people. In regards to the balance between effort and results, I believe leangains is king and I have not seen or experienced anything else that allows me to "break" so may "rules" and still see awesome results.

I have the discipline but it didn't make me feel very good at all. I think it was a hormonal thing? I'm not sure. My metabolism is very very slow. (no I'm not using it as an excuse) So I find it works best for me to have a small breakfast like 100 to 200 calories if I wake up real early. I don't eat my bigger meal until I'm 4 or 5 hours into my day. I feel less sick that way. Low carb Paleo works best for me, and I calorie count religiously (1500-1700 per day) That plus exercising is slowly, but surely helping.

It's suggested that women should fast for 14 hours instead of the 16 if they don't feel right on the 16. Mrs. Survivormind does the 16 but hey, she's the exception, not the rule. I mean the woman can do 20 chin-ups in one set. 90% of the men I work with can't dream of doing that many and they are some tough SOBs. Also, she pays more attention to the guidelines and your performance and gains will hurt if something is missing.

In regards to metabolism, eating more smaller meals does not boost it. Research proves this. Metabolism is based on caloric intake. Here is an article I found with a quick search. I would post a PubMed article but don't have the time to look for it right now.

Based on what you have said so far about IF, you probably weren't eating enough fat at the right times, not enough carbs at the right times, and did too much cardio. All of these things could make it difficult and make you feel like total butt.

I would suggest either high intensity training of a Crossfit variety or intense weight training for exercise. There are certain hormonal reactions to these kinds of exercise that you will not experience doing cardio. Besides, cardio takes more time as well. High intensity exercise is the most efficient approach.

That's my 2 cents.

I understand what you're saying. And I also don't eat small meals all of the time, just breakfast. I was doing a ketogenic diet for a while, so I am sure I was/am getting enough fat. It's okay though, I've found something that works well for me and keeps me comfortable. I agree what you have to say about exercise. I try to get lots of variety when it comes to that.

I have quite a bit more weight to lose than most of the post I have read here, my goal for this year is to lose 2 pounds a week. It sounds so easy when i say it that way, lol. I stopped drinking sodas last Saturday and I have dropped 6 pounds this week so far. I over consume and am not active enough, those are the main things I am changing this year. This thread is a great idea and I hope to look back next January and read all the success stories.

Awesome, cOLD. I think a lot of people can benefit in the health department by reducing their intake of high-glycemic index items and processed foods.

Here's my $.02.

I'm 34 years old, 6'00" and 185 lbs. I do the Spartacus work out twice a week and I run a couple times a week. This allows me to pretty much eat what I want (within reason). Don't count calories; just balance your carbs, proteins, and fats. Be mindful that most "diet only" programs cause you to loose more muscle then fat.

Diet is important but only cardio = healthy weight loss. Period.

Spartacus Work Out and here

This also helps, no matter what your workout is.

I tried one version of the Spartacus workout and it kicked my ass. I like it. Which version do you prefer?
Tomorrow, I'm going to get two or three pairs of dumbbells so I can keep it up.

Oh BTW, official weigh-in yesterday was 224. Miles to go...

I'm in! I will start by drinking 24oz beer cans instead of 12oz cans. You know... Heavier lifting!

Cycle your carbs on work out days and fast for 16 hours a day every day. You will shed fat like it's going out of style.

So basically, skip breakfast every day and have no calories in the AM. Then only drink beer on days you workout. On days you don't workout, drink only red wine or distilled liquor straight up.

I drink all kinds of beer, cider, red wine, and liquor and I weight a consistent 175 (6' 1") and as my fattest, get to just under 8%.

That's a tall order! I eat several small meals throughout the day to keep my metabolism up. I don't think I could do the 16 hours of fasting. And all of this talk of spirits makes me want to get a pint, which I will do, right now.

So yeah, I'm not staying on track tonight. :)

6lbs in a week?!? That's awesome.

Congrats on the fiance :).

But I think that last part is key.

Personally I'm taking tonight off. I pushed the run a bit to hard last night, and I was coming down with a cold anyway, and I paid for it today at work.

I'm hoping to be out running again tomorrow night, because they don't open the campus gym until the 5th.

I was sick all of last week, too, so take it easy and get well soon.

How's that not on track? I plan on having a couple of margaritas tonight right after my work out Haha! Oh and if I can do the 16hr fast I'm sure you can ;)

my goal is to be more active, everday, doing something

more light, more energy, more outside

moar moar moar

in an ideal world, less less less less less too

and a job
