Well it's time for a lessons learned type of story.......Remember this old thread? http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=436600 and this old ebay auction?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...EAFB:IT&viewitem=&item=180053572733&rd=1&rd=1
To make a long story short all I got for a lot of money is the same pic of a closed auction that you all got. The seller/thief is in the UK. I'm not posting this to get any sympathy it's to share the lessons I've learned. I asked you guys for some advice and did not follow all of that advice and as a result left me with an empty bag and empty pockets.....so to speak.

Rule #1: If you win an ebay auction and don't know who the seller is make sure you use one of their protected payment services....or they will not help you in any way....their comment to me was "To Bad So Sad".

Rule #2: Don't pay with a money transfer. I sent the seller who had been communicating with me quickly and politely a money transfer from Western Union. This was a big mistake.....if some ask's you to pay in this manner don't do it and suspect it is a fraud. If I would have opened the WU web site I would have been discouraged from paying for this item immediately.....However, I went to the local WU outlet and they did not say a word, they even helped me to fill out the WU paper work....I'd never sent a money transfer before in my life.....and never will again. WU said very politely......."Oh you have been de-frauded"....."you should never send a money transfer to someone you don't know"!!!!!! They also will not give you any information at all about the person who ripped you off.

Rule #3: Check out the information the seller has posted on ebay. You can use the contact the seller from the information they posted.....this may save you some heartaches when you learn the name, address, and phone numbers are all fake. Do the leg work before you send your hard earned money!!!!!!

Rule #4: If it seems to good to be true.......well what can I say.....good deals are out there.....But, buyer beware!!!!!

I could have, should have and now would have done things differently.......So please don't set yourself up for disappointment like I did. Learn from my costly mistake. I was in a hurry to close this deal....I took the easy way to do it.......The con man/woman tossed out the bait and I swallowed it hook line and sinker. I knew I'd been ripped off about two weeks after this auction closed.....But, never gave up hope that it would work out. But, now I hope this rogue gets what he/she has coming....it's not my place to sit in judgment though.

JB,
You may not get your money back, but I would do everything in my power to make sure this dirt bag isn't able to fool anyone on ebay ever again. That may not be very much, but its something.

...I was hoping and wishing so hard that this would turn out great for ya John...I'm so sorry it has stalled out like it has for you. Lately we've been seeing so many "scammers" working the knife circuits everywhere from the "Bay" to right here in the forum. It's almost to the point where if I don't know you or someone who does...I won't buy from you...New names make me paranoid...Great world we've made huh?...:( :(

I have been trying to sort this out for a little while. I even made a 400 mile trip up there... Dont worry... the situation may be recoverable..
...Did we all hook up with the right bunch or what???...Whata group we have here...

Thanks for the kind thought fellahs. I did this post to help keep someone else from making the same impulsive mistake I made.

Our friend Mav has been helping from the start of this bad situation. He has come up with some ideas that I would have never thought of. I can't thank him enough.

Hey... I like John. Never met him and I probably never will. But I like helping people as best I can. I do a lot of mountain biking so persuaded some mates of mine that that particular area had some good trails to ride... truth is it was horrible... rained all day. But spent a good few hours riding round checking things out. Then have spent the rest of the week on the phone... I will get the bast@rd... trust me on that. I have a couple of ways of getting him...I dont give up that easily. I am speaking to his ISP tomorrow who already have validated his account.

he he we will be going again. But I have a few other ways to get him. Peterhead sucks bigtime... but I *HATE* to see a fellow Bucknut and friend get shafted... wont allow that to happen...ever

and like I said.. I done the 400mile trip up there... and its nothing but a huge industrial estate... no houses and not much else... unless you like burger vans..

Aside from the monetary loss, there is the damage that this sort of thing does to your perspective on humanity.

Just when you are about to write off the species, someone comes along (like Mav) and puts you back on track.:)

Agreed... I hate scammers with a passion. And I hate Scammers who scam my mates even more.

*when* I get him there will be a for sale thread offering Ash trays made from his kneecaps.

...Good ol' Mav...Use care, tact and do nothing alone...A witness to anything said or done by a "scammer" can be priceless...To say nothing about having your backside covered...

I feel for you John...good thing is Buck collectors are a world wide network..Maverick going 400 miles out of his way pretty well sums up the character of Buck collectors
