I spent a great 4 days with Tai Goo. He is a wealth of knowledge, full of patience and great instincts for teaching.

Here is the result of his teaching:

The knife has an 8 1/2 inch blade of 1065 with nickle silver guard and butt cap, copper spacer and copper tipped tang (peened). It cuts ironwood & barbed wire with little dulling. All metals are forged and the handle is Elk antler.
It still needs finishing work but here it is so far.

Now to try one on my own.

I know that was a lot of fun; working with an accomplished maker, such as Tai, can shorten the learning curve by a bunch.

Your first forged piece is a beauty.

This is me being jealous. Congrats on what had to be some excellent teaching and a great looking knife.

It's a goal of mine to be Tai's student for a short time, like you were.

Very nice , you and Tai should both be proud of that one.

I have been dying to try my hand at forging , just got to find someone in the area who is open for teaching.

Outstanding work!! No doubt learning under a master certainly takes the growing pains out of this craft!

Thanks Dean. That was fun!
(Dean is a great student! He‘s an accomplished luthier as well.)

Dean, did you get any good pix of the process? :)
