Lest we forget - Attention to detail defined in the Sebenza 21

Looking at these photos never gets old. I've done it several times. And once again this morning. Thanks, kid!...;-)

A permanent engraving of steel type! You never see it, but it is a very cool feature. No acid-etch or lazer mumbo-jumbo, just a very finely engraved letter to indicate forever what the blade was made of.

Are you sure that's what it is? I would've guessed, just by how it's placed, that it's a groove to allow lube to be applied to the bearing when the knife is assembled. Just "V" doesn't really say much about the steel.

He is right about the blade steel ID.

Hey TC. The S30V blades are marked S, and the S35VN blades are marked V. Prior to that, there was no marking, so birth card is required for the BG42 and ATS-34 blades to be identified. As mentioned, it's great to have a permanent mark that won't rub off, but I suppose you need a little proprietary knowledge to interpret the mark.

OK, thanks. Still seems a strange placement though, half under the bearing. Kind of reminded me of the oil grooves on a turbo charger thrust bearing I once wrote a patent on.

You remove the clip just for fun?

Because no needs to do this for cleaning and of course no needs to disassembly whole knife, just ONE screw and you done.

But my guess is you did it just for fun :) to look inside of very well engineered knife.

Yep, just for the fun of it :p

Well, that's it for 2016. I dabbled in a couple other CRK models, carried a few other knives, but once again, the 21 (in a couple sizes, and a few flavours), ruled my pocket most of the 52 weeks of this year. We'll see what 2027 holds!

but I don't have the patience to wait a decade to find out! :p;)

Great pictures and detailed analysis. I've been following this forum since I picked up a Sebenza 21 Lg Micarta last year, but still learned some things I didn't know (I haven't taken mine apart yet).

My brother was exclaiming over those two shallow grooves on the lockbar side, going on about how CRKs are supposed to be perfect. I just emailed him the explanation :)

Thanks!
