Let’s see that Patina!

There's plenty of patina to br found with Buck knives, but it's mostly just brass because they rarely use 5160.

I understand that most Buck users are used to blades that don't rust, but we all have experience with other types of knives.

This is my one and only Buck knife, a venerable V7V3 "4 dot" from 1985-6.
Brass shows a nice even patina (even the thumb stud) except were my fingers rub from use, and were it moves around in the pouch I made, love it.

When I get a new knife, I polish it with flix, put mineral oil on it, and wrap it in deli paper before I store it away. Don't like patina.

You know, this discussion about "Patina" reminds me of the equivalent to "Patina" in coins. one of my other hobbies. .

When patina it is beautiful, we numismatists call it "Toning" ...



When patina is ugly, we call the same thing "Tarnish"

Bump this to the top. Some of my knives I take the time to clean up but some I don't. These two aren't very old but they are the ones I grab the most. I keep them oiled, but I don't spend much time putting a shine on them.

But if we are talking real world, hard use patina, while not Bucks, my Grandpa and Mom's old butcher knives have it in spades.
