I have several fixed and folding knives that I rotate through, I have descant packs in storage containers, but what oil do you use the wipe down the blade and/or use to lubricate.

To this point I have mostly used CLP very lightly.

3 in 1 oil for pivots. I do not wipe down my blades with an oil or other corrosion protectant. All are stored in a controlled environment with minimal humidity. My kitchen knives are cleaned and wiped dry immediately after use.

I use Break Free for non-food use and mineral oil on food cutting knives. I use Go-Juice for pivots.

WD 40 works very well.
WD 40 works to free my stuck lawnmower wheels when they won't go in reverse, but it has never worked as long term lubrication on them. I thought the WD was Water Displacement? I treat WD40 as a bolt loosener, but not a lubricant. Been meaning to get some Lithium grease for the mower wheels and this is another reminder. :)

I found that out when I was a kid. Nothing puts a bicycle chain out of whack like WD40 does. Unsticking nuts and bolts is all I use it for. But there are many different types of WD40. The WD40 Dry Lube works good for locks and such.

Whenever someone says "WD40" I think of the blue and yellow cans that have been around for years. Same think when someone says "CRC". Did not know that there is a line of WD40 products now.

Oh yeah, there are many different products that WD40 has out now. They are pretty good when used for their intended purposes.

I ended up with a bottle of KPL original. Haven't used it for anything yet. What's the consensus on that stuff?

Plain old WD 40 is just fine for wiping down blades for storage-which was the original question.
There are better lubes, but the lubricant in WD 40 is plain old mineral oil.

That's what I heard also. I never trusted it because there wasn't enough oil in it to oil my bicycle chains when I was a kid. So, I never considered it to be used as an oil. But WD40 does have some products more geared towards actually being oil, as well as grease. For knives I've always used motor oil, 3in1, and Break Free, and mineral oil for food prep blades. Now, I only use Break Free and mineral oil for blades and Go-Juice for pivots.

It's a great knife lube. Not sure if I'd use it to wipe down blades due to the cost, but it does great on bearings, washers, and detents.

Thanks. That seems to be where I came to on it, from reading some reviews and such.

I picked up some of their KPL Knifeshield to try out for my less-than-stainless stuff.
Living in the swamp, within walking distance of the gulf, and most of the year at 263% humidity I usually use a bit of something. I've been wanting a food safe alternative that wasn't mineral oil though.
Kinda spendy for 4oz, but if it works well I'd say worth it. We'll see how it does.

Any particular reason you don't like mineral oil? I too live in the swamps of the gulf coast and it has been doing well for the last year or so.
