Let's do a fun project together!

Not this isn't the end all be all but we have something to get us close

Back on topic. As I work a handle with the sure form I check it and chirp on the high spots with a graphite scribble.

Sorry I got excited. Handle didn't need much work. Kref cut and the head seated skook. Wedge went fine. I glued it (debate on weather that is correct)

Love it!
I have a 2lb symmetric boy's axe I'd like to put on a straight handle now...
As for glue, I've gone to slopping BLO into everything and letting that set up.

Shame about the palm swell, I'd probably try to do some sort of epoxy jute wrap at the end just to have something to keep it from sliding out of hand. I like to use a lose grip though, YMMV.

Thanks to this thread I have a surform shaver on the way. If that works out well I might buy one of the planes, the one that has different blade options probably. I love my spokeshave but hickory tends to have a lot of tear out issues so I end up using a rasp for most of my shaping.

I do not use glue. I got a Wetterlings Hudson Bay Axe and they definitely use some epoxy on the wedge, so they do it. It would suck if you wanted to save the handle but in my book it is leaps and bounds better than a secondary metal wedge.

It looks great. I have a 36" straight handle I am thinking to use it for a 2lbs axe - will be interesting to see what I can get at the end.
