What do you think, Natural Micarta or some Spalted "Something er other"? Not sure they'll fit yet, blade is in the oven tempering.

That looks vaguely like the upper portion of a female reproductive system...What do you think, Natural Micarta or some Spalted "Something er other"? Not sure they'll fit yet, blade is in the oven tempering.

I stumbled on it by accident, I was flat sanding a piece on sandpaper and stabbed into a phone book that was sitting close by and it hit me.That phone book measuring trick is brilliant![]()
Hand forged in the fires of Mount Doom, quenched in the snows of Bank Cut, it is able to cut 1,000 lb anvils in a single stroke!
Is this why they call them a head knife? Gonna give one of these a shot.

It's 52100 in .058", We'll see how this design works out. Cross your fingers!
What steel are you using for it? Gotta get something better as well.
Good point, they're stabilized but you're right they are prone to it. Natural micarta might be the best bet.Natural Micarta. Spalted wood looks better, but is prone to breakage...
I have some Red Palm, doesn't contrast as much as the black but has that grain. It's incredible how dense palm is.Black Palm can be awesome; kinda like a dark Bocote...

Very cool looking blade John, that's going to be one nice looking knife. Stabilized spalted Maple granted isn't as strong as micarta or G-10, but I really don't see cracking for any reason. It should be some pretty tough stuff I would think. What do you think, Natural Micarta or some Spalted "Something er other"? Not sure they'll fit yet, blade is in the oven tempering.

If this piece was from K&G I wouldn't hesitate. I got this at a show and am trying to remember the company's name to research their process. They were out of either Lolo or Hamilton Montana I think.Very cool looking blade John, that's going to be one nice looking knife.
