Hi all, what a great forum this is with so much knowledge. We have folks here who are makers, experts on survival, leatherwork, history, axes, hawks and hatchets. The threads get many hits. Lets hear from all you lurkers, lets see your gear. Ask questions of the fiends who hang around here. I'm going to do a sheath WIP progress, maybe some of the others who make stuff can do the same. Not ranting here folks just like to see this forum grow.:D

Very best regards

Robin

How about all the regulars around hear introduce them selves and give a little example
of what they do or make?

ok my name is steve. im rather new to the bladed hobby. im post here and there. my current project is that im modding the CS pipehawk my folks got me for xmas. so far ive stripped the paint, sharpened the factory edge, put some notches in it and engraved a squid around that annoying lil set screw whole. ive also trimmed the haft, and gave it two coats of stain, and then cut and sanded about two inches off the bottom and carved a handle in it. i will post pics as soon as i can.

i also found an old machete with out scales that im thinking about fixing up somehow

I'll jump in...

Hello my name is James and I am a Lurker & Hawk Noob.

At the moment I'm just reading and trying to learn everything I can from the forum. I'm getting ready to order a Trail Hawk as I think it would be a good Hawk to thinker and learn with.

Although, it wont be my first one as Ive had this one for a few years now sitting in one of my storage bins. Got it in a trade and haven't really done anything with it.

Hi there James, I'm Robin. Hope to see pics of your trail hawk when you finish tinkering with it ;-)

Thanks for posting

Best regards

Hello all, I lurk here for the most part, I forge knives and the occasional hawk as a hobby maker. I've amassed a decent collection of hawks and hatchets, Recently made a hawk from a ball peen I'll be posting soon. My passion is with knives and traditional hawks though. just amazed at some of ya'lls artistry in those things. Very Cool!

That's a grate looking axe. Can you give me some details on it?

Is it me or has there been more activity in this sub forum? Seems that way to me at least. I too hope this area grows.

I don't mod or tinker much. I just like using axes and hawks. I've been known to just stare at my GB mini while watching TV. I think a beautiful yet working tool is one of the highest art forms. Especially ones that are gently worn or patina'd through use.

Well I guess I’ll tell all of you a little bit about myself.
I was a lurker hear for some time, my particular are of interest is the tomahawk and its application as a weapon. I was introduced to the tomahawk by some Navy guys that I got to train whit a few years ago. The only time I have ever seen this weapon was in movies like the “Patriot” and “Last of the Mohicans”. I had an eye opening experience during the CQC part of the training. When the issue of edged weapon was being discussed, of the instructors pulled out a Winkler made combat axe, he proceeded to give us a few basics of the use of this weapon both in a combat and breeching roll. From then on I made the tomahawk a permanent part of my combat load out.
I finally met and got to buy a hawk from Daniel Winkler this past October, and have been carrying it ever since. I loved it so much that I have bought two more axes since then.
Being part of this forum has thought me a lot about the history of these axes, and has let me appreciate the artistic side of what I only taught of as a weapon. ( I have Pipeman to thank for that)
I have studied a lot of tactics from a lot of sources, ( the syoc dvd’s etc.) but most of what has actually helped me when I have been in harm’s way, and have had to use my axe, are basic moves I have learned from the Dwight McLemore books and DVD’s. I do some training whit the axe every time I get the chance, have a log and chain set up like Mr. McLeomore taught me trough his books and videos. I now get to trained some of the new members of the government group I’m a part of and have added the tomahawk as part of the gear I recommend and teach.
Yes men do still take axes in to battle, and they do use them.

I'll be happy to post once I figure out how to post pics properly...hate to admit it but I'm photo challenged. Once I get the hang of it I have a Mueller Bieber, Iltis Oxhead and Gransfors axes to post as well as some hawks. My current interest is in one man bucksaws to match the axes. My long term plan is to help the Forrest Service with trail clearing and whatnot.

I'm John. I'm a big lurker.

I only occasionally get to go camping, and I can't really get outdoors, so my enthusiasm for axes and hatchets is rather limited. I'm not interested in tomahawks.

I've been meaning to buy a cheap hatchet or a small axe, but I'd be lucky if I got to use it a couple times this year. There may or may not be an axe with a destroyed haft in my garage. Meh.

I am in the process of rehafting a sledgehammer I found in my backyard. I'm thinking about maybe etching or engraving it.

I'm Randy, the older half of Church and Son Bladesmiths. Blacksmithing, leatherwork, some beading and generally creators of working replicas using the techniques and materials that were available in the mid to late 19th century. I joined this forum because although not entirely all up my alley, there is a ton of talented and knowledgeable people, and it is active.
The younger half, VooDoo(16), is a college student who is heavily into MilSim Airsoft, Kydex and perfume. But he can hand stitch leather and beat hot iron when no one is looking, so maybe there is hope.(Sure does make interesting conversations between us)
Here is an example and both in the first pic were sold on BF.....

I lurk here a bit so thought I'd poke my head out and say g'day. I'm a hobbyist maker of knives n such, no forge so no hawks yet, and am into all edged things. I don't have much fancy just a fiskars hatchet and a trail hawk which serve my purpose and am currently tossing up between a GB and a lower end custom. Don't get to use them as much as I would like so the price is hard to justify, would love to get something made like that emerson with a decent hammer poll in 5160, I like tacticool, but still practical.

Oh as a afterthought has anyone seen the new fiskars? It has the blade bevel rising above where the plastic wraps around the handle, like the full size axe, have'nt used it extensively yet but should stop some of the wood spliners getting underneath and chipping up the handle.

I better do an intro for those who don't know me. I bash out the odd hawk and make trade type knives, skinners, i'll try almost anything. Mainly I work in leather.
Thanks to all you folks who have posted. Here's a pile of my work.

Best regards
