Let's see some customized Spydies!

This is my current edc knife not really too customized just bead blasted.

Here are some pictures of my personal carry knife. Ok, its not a Spyderco, but a Spyderco wannbe. I made this after having a chat with Sal a while back about some ideas I had. I submitted it as a prototype to the company along with a frame lock I made also. Both were rejected though and returned to me.:( I thought a D2 Spyderco with a low rider was a good idea but in the end it was deemed to close to others already produced or in the works or something. I really don't recall all the reasons. Sal was a gentleman about it though. I ended up having my friends over at the Dozier shop heat treat it for me along with the lock bar so I could at least put it to work. It ain't the prettyiest gal at the ball because I'm not too concerned about looks on my own user but it sure cuts up a storm.

Sadly I don't even own one of my own customized Spydercos to show off. The only one I had I donated to Spark to sell at auction for the forum to raise cash. It should be up here before long according to his last post. Here are some pics of that one too for anyone interested. I just couldn't let this post go without posting something!:D

This upgraded Salt 1 has a host of things done to it making it like no other. For one all the screws are titanium. The wood scales are lignum vitae, which has a long time history of marine use so it went well with the Salts H1 steel and general uses. The wood scales were hand checkered by master wood worker Sherry Abraham who is also a member here. I modified the lock so it is stronger than factory, and I gave the blade a splinter picker point. Then I gold anodized the whole knife which is lined in titanium. You guys can fight over it when Spark puts it up for auction I guess.

I think that is so cool. Who did that?
Uh, I did. Is why it's not so pretty. But it works and is, for me, a vast improvement on the origninal.

Waves are always kind of fugly ugly and even more so on Spydercos but hey it was never good looks that attracted most of us to the Spyderco brand anyways. I think you did a stand up job.

Thank you, sir. It was your work that inspired it. And yes, I don't usually buy Spydercos because they're pretty. Ref: the Dodo, though it is one of my favorite knives!

I can't post pics but I took a PE Rescue 93mm (black FRN handle) and reshaped the blade into a Warncliff shape instead of the sheepsfoot blade. I had to take a lot of metal off and go slow to not burn the temper but now I have one heck of a great user. I love pointy warncliffs but they are rare, the only one Spyderco offer that compares to what I wanted was the Centofante 4. I think the Cent 4 is a real winner and I recomend people buying that if that is what they want but I wanted to mess around with a knife for once and I am happy.

The thing I really like about it is, it is about as light as a Delica but has a great handle. Anybody that has ever held a Rescue knows how great the handle is. It makes it look strang but at least it is unique.
