Lets see some Hinderer action

Are there any plans by hinderer to make some? If not I could probably do a run of them at some point...

I can't offer insight into Hinderer's plans in this regard, but when they did offer titanium scales in the past it was always in very limited supply and choices. So if they do offer them (both regular and skinny) in the near future I would think there would still be a demand for more. Plain versions in a greater variety of finishes and colors would be a good start. Personally I like the milled out version for lighter weight. Then maybe some kind of textured versions, but something besides dog paws, frag, and their standard texture pattern. As I type I'm trying to visualize the starburst pattern from my CRK Wilson Combat Inkosi on an all titanium XM-18...WOW.

Do this Josh and I'd be all over it!

I saw DLT has a bunch of Hinderer xm-18 3.5" fuller non-flippers. Man this batch has the color and finish of my preference but I have never been sure about non-flipper framelock (with the exception of a couple of spyderco Military), mainly fear of the lack of the flipper tab as a finger guard. I also wonder if no-choil and non-flipper can co-exist on Hinderer XM-18s?

Anyone have some experience/thought to share?

I have two fullered flippers, beautiful knives. But I don't understand the flipper delete thing - at all. In particular on a Gen 5/6, where the detent in a flipper is made stronger than in a Gen 4, due to Steel/Steel lock contact, which slips easier than Ti/Steel. Non-flipper means that the detent has to be weakened too .... Just don't understand what the point is.

Then again, the XM-18 has plenty of idiosyncrasies that don't make sense and I love them for it - they give character :) So I'm the last one to complain. For example:

- Why do Gen5/6 have an LBS ?
- Why do Gen6 have Allen, Torx, Philips, flat-head and custom screws, all in one knife ?
- What's up with using copper or even brass for screw material ?
Etc. :)

Ya a milled out Starburst or a diamond pattern would be awesome. Perhaps an overlapping circle pattern too.

I would love to see a 1911 front strap checkered design like the golf ball or fish scale.

Perhaps we could enlist @WValtakis to engrave a scale or do some fine millwork like that. I imagine some kind of a cool Celtic braid or some Samurai or Koi engraving would be bad ass.

I have a couple thumbstud knives and ill admit they're not my preference either. I love me a good frame lock flipper, but to each his own.

Also I love choils on the XM-18, in fact I prefer choils on every knife over 3.25". Its just a size thing, if you're going to choke up on the blade you really need that choil, especially on a bulkier Hinderer.

That being said its nice that Rick offers lots of options so everyone can find their preference.

I almost ordered one of those nonchoil Spantos and then I was going to have REK cut a Choil if possible. I decided to hold off for a skinny spanto instead, if that ever becomes a reality or not we shall see.

I like the copper screw set i just got but ill admit they're soft and serve less functionality then steel or Ti.

I'm usually a function over form kind of guy but i really want to let the copper get all tarnished and add a cool look. I can always trade it back for steel later if I want to make it a true user.

For now my Sheepfoot is my user, I actually hit a large packing staple while breaking boxes the other day and rolled the edge in one small spot. I'm gonna have to spend this afternoon working that out when I get off work but thats the point of a user blade vs pocket jewelery haha.

I have one of these incoming.

It checks a lot of boxes for me. I don't need, or particularly want, a flipper (I don't own any now but might again) and with the fullered blade it has the groove to help open it (as well as the thumb stud). From a comfort-in-the-pocket point of view I prefer not having a flipper tab sticking out. It also avoids the tab hitting my hand when I use the thumb stud (or groove to Spydieflick-ish) the blade open.

I was weighing up a half track, full track, xm-18 3.5 and xm-24. When I saw the non-flippered xm-18 option (with the blade finish etc I wanted) my mind was made up. I still might loop back on a full track (mainly because I like how it looks - I really don't need that much knife and probably would seldom use it - but when did logic ever drive decisions - heh).

I'm keen to try out the fullered blade - I love the look and it sounds like it may run on the thinner/slicier side of the blade options. Hopefully that is true.

Totally. I’ve always owned and like non-flippers and even deleted a couple flippers in the day. Honestly, I regret doing it now and appreciate flipper XMs as much if not more than non-flippers currently. Flippers are just cool and more fun in a way. From now on the only non-flippers I’ll get will be ones that came like that from the ranch.

I wasn't taken by the fuller XM-18s and only have a flipper version (which I am thinking of posting so someone can enjoy it) but I do have a few non flipper Xm-18s (not Gen 6s) and I really like them. They may be some of my favorites they are smooth and can be flicked open if I want to ... but guess that's just personal preference.

+1, I was always a non-flipper guy. But I think the xm18, is made to have a flipper. That being said, I've had a number of non-flip xms, and still carry the little 3" non flip.

I just picked up a non flipper fullered spear. Scratched my itch for a sebenza. Left it on bearings have to be careful closing blade I make sure to disengage the lock bar close to the blade tang.

For anyone with the latest XM knives how is the lock bar tension? I had one of the gen 4 flippers and was disapointed at how easy it was to disengagae. My Strider and CRK framelocks were much stiffer which is how I prefer it.

While we're asking questions, I'm still getting up to speed on the range of configurations out there in the XM-18 line. They haven't made any skinny non flipper yet have they?
