Well orange juice is acidic and will cause even stainless steels to patina if not washed off imidiatley. It normally would get darker though.

ok gotcha. was worried that i only had it for 2 days. man i was gonna strangle this dude lol. thanks for the response.

The DLC will look lighter if you wash it with soap and water. I guess that could be the case with the working finish, too?
Try some mineral oil. That evens out the color on faded DLC.

I did this same with my WF m390 the other day. It did get lighter but once it dried out it got darker. Not as dark but darker than it was right after washing it. I believe it's similar to a bead blast finish and it does that because the soap dries out the finish.

Either way it won't hurt it and you could cut oranges, anything else acidic all day long and m390 will not be effected that drastically. This is why m390 is one of the best all around steels out there.

Just use it and enjoy!

Anyone have any experience using a DLC XM-18 or 24? Just got one today, I'll post pics later...

I actually use my knives for every day things and I never owned a DLC Hinderer before this...I just want to know what, if any, limitations it has or what I should watch out for in order to prevent unnecessary / undo wear/fading of the DLC.

Any info/tips welcome! Thanks...

I have been carrying and using a black DLC Half Track for several months. Every time I think I have finally gotten a little worn look to the blade or a scratch I end up cleaning it and it looks brand new. I use it everyday to cut up boxes and cut tape. I have also used it to carve on a stick and cut up some pieces of fatwood. I would say use it with confidence.

That's great to hear, Whitty - thanks for the quick reply.

That definitely looks like nothing happened to it after. I use these every day for pretty much the same of everything you just mentioned for yourself, so that really helps me gives a great idea of what it can do.

*Anything special you use for cleaning?

Usually I just wipe the blades down with a microfiber kind of cloth, like what they recommend for cleaning electronics like computer/TV screens.

I used rubbing alcohol on some INFI or stainless blades when there was a tough mess, but it's 91% I don't want to dissolve the DLC, haha.

I used grocery store bought rubbing alcohol to clean the gunk off the blade and then wiped it down with mineral oil and dried it really well. If you look at the top corner of the spine on the blade in the bottom picture you will see where I missed a spot!

Oh I'm surprised Rubbing alcohol was okay on that, that's good to know. I was sure I might dissolve it, haha. You know, that spot looked like a play of the lighting I didn't know it was part of the stain.
