I sharpen the awl on my old Wengers/Victorinox issued soldiers,it makes for a very usefull tool good for many jobs.

A little run over with my

Fallkniven DC4 Diamond- Ceramic Whetstone

Is all it needs,I also use it to remove burrs and the like.

Now if anyone has a HJ they would like to part with send me a message,a user would be best as I would love to compare awls in use. 😁

HJ 8 in Smooth Ivory Bone that has aged nicely over time. I love the bluing in the channel of the punch. I have to ask waynorth waynorth Charlie, is the bluing a result of the production process?

Haven’t mastered taking pix with left hand so I couldn’t emulate exactly Paul’s photo…but you get the point (hopefully not the point of the awl). Love the Smooth Ivory Bone Washington Punch Knife…aka HJ8.48E13087-FDE3-4EBC-8B53-9E16B5FB685F.jpeg

Paul, I remember Charlie saying that Bill forged that punch as where Robeson ground it to shape. So just like the Ancients that "blueing" is the forging slag.

What a beauty, everytime I see an HJ8 I kick myself because I got in on the first run of Washington Jacks and when the second batch came out I completely missed the relevance of the HJ.
Loved seeing all of your other exmaples in the prior posts but didn't want to spam you. LOL
