Usually on one side, similar to each blade on scissors!Do punches need to be sharpened? If so, how?
Yes!!Similar to a Chisel Charlie?
You found some good'uns!!Some of my most prized possessions..
(I don't have many due to lack of funds back in those years but I feel extremely fortunate to have 6, 9, and 10.)

Haven’t mastered taking pix with left hand so I couldn’t emulate exactly Paul’s photo…but you get the point (hopefully not the point of the awl). Love the Smooth Ivory Bone Washington Punch Knife…aka HJ8.HJ 8 in Smooth Ivory Bone that has aged nicely over time. I love the bluing in the channel of the punch. I have to askwaynorth Charlie, is the bluing a result of the production process?

Paul, I remember Charlie saying that Bill forged that punch as where Robeson ground it to shape. So just like the Ancients that "blueing" is the forging slag.HJ 8 in Smooth Ivory Bone that has aged nicely over time. I love the bluing in the channel of the punch. What a beauty, everytime I see an HJ8 I kick myself because I got in on the first run of Washington Jacks and when the second batch came out I completely missed the relevance of the HJ.HJ 8 in Smooth Ivory Bone that has aged nicely over time.
