Photos Let's See Those Monster Swedges!

More 38s. The Northfield top (no longer in my stable) has them, the Tidioute below (never leaving..) not really monster.

Swedges, more than you want to know... Kerry Hampton, who learned how to make knives in Tony's shop, had a thread here on swedges, but the pics are gone. Tony used to say it wasn't for the faint of heart to belly up to the grinder to do the swedges. I read this in a knife book a while back:

Mike Robuck Mike Robuck Really interesting background article, thanks for putting it up Mike. Pity Kerry isn't active here any longer, he writes really well, had knowledge, plenty of wit and he could make a very decent knife indeed. Believe he would agree that he was very fortunate to be able to work alongside the Old Dog, Reece and others. what an inspirational atmosphere.

Fine swedge example you showed too, ultra!

This one just came in last nite…
2020 snake-wood 62, my first SFO.
I noticed yours earlier in the thread Will,
is yours iron-wood?
Lurvely indeed these 62s in any guise really!

Fine item, yes mine's an Ironwood. The swedges on these are dramatic as there's little room for error incorporating the nail-nick. Yet I think overall, Wharncliffes are better suited without them.

Thanks, Will
