Let's See Those Survival Kits featuring RAT

some pretty sweet kits. im trying to build mine up right now. i really like the look of that springfield pistol might have to pick one up at some point.

from the looks of your kits it seems you guys know survival. Thumbs up to forty two blades, that peanut lighter, county comm i think? is amazing. you wont regret having it.

I looked at a number of carry all bags, and settled on the Maxpedition Typhoon, liking the monostrap style more then a backpack style. The Rat blades shown in the pictures stay out of sight unless I am off pavement. The izula is on my strap, and the RC-3p normally rides on the side, but my son borrowed it and misplaced it :( .

E&E Group
Rat Advanced E&E Kit (not pictured)

Sometimes I will swap out one or more of the SAKS for a different model, such as replacing the woodsman for a GAK. The medical group tends to be a bit heavy. Winter I add sock liners, and thermals. While it looks like a lot, having carried it many miles, it rides very comfortably, and after the first half mile or so, I hardly notice its there.

I've been putting together a kit lately. Before I always figured I would just grab my backpacking back(already loaded with gear) but I would still have to add some things seperately like another knife, firearm, food, etc.

I saw some nice maxpedition bags at the gunshow that were good size BOBs. They are nice constructions too.

My basic day hike survival kit that gets a few things added to it depending on the trip - it gets maliced to the outside of my kifaru E&E or molle express. I think its too big for regular belt carry.

Its a Maxpedition M2 waist pack - Im really not a fan of maxpedition nor do I own any of thier products except this - it is just the perfect size for what I needed. Altoid tin fits perfectly in the front pocket with a pair of latex gloves and sani-wipes.

The main pocket can hold a pretty amazing amount of crap (you can easily fit two altoid tins with room to spare) - I always carry a SAK Farmer, Countycomm maratac aaa, signal miror, compass, whistle and firesteel. As you can see, there is still a lot of room left over - I usually add a leatherman, Ra Clicky 170 and waterproof match case filled with two CR123s. I usually have a pen and sharpie in the pen holders that flank either side of the outside pocket.

The tin in the front is a very basic FAK (I have a separate comprehensive "FAK pack" that sometimes gets thrown in) - the tin has 2 doses of ibuprofin, aspirin, benadryl, claritin and pepto. iodine tabs and 1 condom for water carry. two razor blades. 1 pair contact lenses. 1 mini bic. Assorted band-aids and a few pieces of moleskin for blisters - I need tape to keep it closed :D

Anyway, maxped M2 is a perfect pouch for a mini kit

I also have a SpecOps PackRat that gets thrown inside any bag I carry whenever I step foot out of my apartment and goes with me everywhere (I know it overlaps a bit with my M2 suvival kit), but its more of a comprehensive urban survival EDC/BOB kit - not really a wilderness survival kit per se... though it does go with me when I hike (or when I get a cup of coffee :D ). It contains:

Surefire LX2 + F04 diffuser
Glotoob Lithium - Green
Maratac AAA
cheapo fauxtons clipped around
Surefire Saint Minimus headlamp
Petzl E+lite headlamp
3 pairs spare contact lenses
Keep 2 go tube with 4 Surefire CR123s
Bandana
Benchmade Rescue Hook
County Comm widgy bar
Mini bic
Button compass
Nail clippers
Spare keys
Assorted Pens, Sharpie, Fisher Bullet Space Pen
Rat Cutlery RC3mil (Busse Game Warden or RC Izula is on me)
Benchmade 555 Mini-Griptilian
Leatherman Wave or PST2
Duct Tape and Medical Tape - 10 feet of each wrapped around pen
Paracord - 25 feet
Moleskin small writing pad
Another Altoid Tin FAK with:
2 alcohol hand wipes
Assorted bandaids
Advil
Tylenol PM
pepto
Claritin D
Benydryl
2 Razorblades
1 Condom
