I find it's not when I'm out in the forests and mountains that I'm at my coldest but when I'm just walking my dogs locally around the streets. I think this is due to the slower pace and lower level of exertion.
Anyway whatever the reason is I had to wrap up warm today with some of my warmest gear so it was my Woolrich Classic Field Coat ( Mine is a little on the large size which I thought would be good so I can layer underneath it....Pfft unless I visit Siberia in winter I ain't gonna need to layer much more than a t shirt under this tank of a coat !), my Lowe Alpine Mountain hat ( This hardly see's any wear cos it's just too warm once I get hiking ), Gore-tex/ Thinsulate lined gloves and my Mountain equipment fleece lined pants:

Let's see what you all wear when the temps plummet !

Hi pit -

I wear a pair of coveralls with a hoodie and varying layers of shirts / pants etc. under.

Here are a couple of pictures from a bears game where the on-field temps at game time was 7 degrees f (-14 c).

I also have my sippie cup full of "spicy apple juice" with me as a warming aid.

Reminds me of a tale my buddy told me.

He is a ' Munro Bagger ' and they are an odd bunch in the UK that climb all the mountains over 3000ft so they can tick them off on their sheets.
Anyway my mate Dave is heading up a particularly gnarly mountain in Scotland in the depths of Winter.
There is a snowstorm blowing and my mate is all geared up with high tec clothing, crampons, ice axes in his hands, the works.
Suddenly from the white haze in front of him appear an old couple coming back down. They are wearing cheap rain coats, wellington boots and carrying umbrellas. As they reached Dave they said " Be careful young man the weather is quite nasty at the top !".....True story !:D:thumbup:

Hi PDE -

I prefer Jack Daniels, but at least we know that YOU are getting your minerals. :p

For riding my motorcycle, I have the thin layers of the wicking underwear, then use t-shirts and sweat shirts - pants etc.

I use the rubber overboots that have the removable felt liners when it gets sloppy and cold, as they keep your feet nice and warm and dry.

If it gets really cold and I will be out all day, I also use the little hand-warmer packs that heat up for 8 hours.

No pics but:

Anorak made from a couple Italian Army wool blankets, shrunken and lanolized.
German military wool trousers or Swedish.

base layer of either Stanfields 80/20 heavyweight wool long underware, sometimes backed up with Filson Alaskan wool underware.

Woolrich or Cabelas wool shirts.

If It's really cold then I'll throw on my L.L. Bean Irirsh Fishermans sweater on over the shirt, but only if it'sarctic outside.

Great stuff guys, keep em coming. I've woke up to snow falling again so looks like my warm weather wardrobe will see some more use !!!

I changed it up today and wore my Buffalo Special 6 shirt, this is a Pile lined number with a Pertex6 outer shell, great bit of kit with awesome venting, I'd say it's about on a par warmth wise with my Woolrich coat.

When it is cold and wet (or don't want to look like Nanook), I have a Hycreek Sportsmans Suit that I wear. It's advertized on the back of just about every issue of Backwoodsman Mag. Great piece of kit!

Rick, last year I posted a question about that Hycreek stuff on two forums. Nobody had tried but lots were curious as was I. So how great a piece of kit is it and how's the fit?

Awesome piece o kit, flnder. Have had mine for 4 years now... in some thick stuff... still good as new. Ron Hood endorses them now. They are all over his forum.

ABSOLUTELY WORTH THE MONEY! and its really cheap too!

For those of you that wear Anoraks,
Can you water-resist them at all? I remember reading Rick's anorak thread last winter and thought that it would be really warm and on the same lines as a navy pea coat. I'm not sure it would do very well here in the PNW unless it could shed water though.

If you lanolize the wool, it sheds water pretty well. I wouldn't expect it to perform well in a downpour, but it can handle cold wet environments. It shines below freezing, though. I keep a military poncho in my bag should I ever need to hunker down in the rain or sleet.

Rick
