Let's see ya cold weather wear !

I'll second this fine piece of kit. I have a similar one from Cabela's, and it is one of my favorite sweaters. The windstopper lining is quite effective. Best yet... that price is great! I may have to pick up another... I love that cammo pattern.

+2 for this one. I have an older version. Wool outer, but with the windstopper lining. Got it on clearance for $40!!

We've gotten down to about 20 this week, and should be ~15 after some rain comes through tonight or tomorrow.
I'm having to spend a few hours per night standing still babysitting a piece of finicky equipment in a raised building on stilts about 20ft. off the ground with a grate floor, open bay doors, and exhaust fans for condensation at floor and ceiling level. Kind of like standing in a wind tunnel sometimes.
Polartec Powerstretch bottoms under work pants, midweight merino wool socks, and either an Eddie Bauer Powerstretch top or fleece pullover under a hooded Carharrt Active jacket with quilted lining, and a Carharrt beanie under my hardhat. Haven't gotten cold yet.
Started to send that jacket back, 'cause I didn't really like how bulky it was and the canvas was thinner than expected, but kept it to see how it would do in the cold. Got it for something like $26(!) at STP.
I like it now:D

Not something I'd wear in the outdoors, because it's bulky, but it's doing well on the job:

There is a snowstorm blowing and my mate is all geared up with high tec clothing, crampons, ice axes in his hands, the works.
Suddenly from the white haze in front of him appear an old couple coming back down. They are wearing cheap rain coats, wellington boots and carrying umbrellas. As they reached Dave they said " Be careful young man the weather is quite nasty at the top !".....True story !:D:thumbup:
I posted this after my trip to Utah this spring, and still do find it interesting. I thought being a Southerner I would freeze my butt off out West, but humidity must have a lot to do with how cold it feels, because it was the exact opposite:
Also thought it was interesting how differently we were all dressed for the climate. My girlfriend grew up different places in the West, and usually had on a sweatshirt or sweater over a shirt, and sometimes a shell over that. I'm from the Southeast, and mostly wore a t-shirt. Some people were decked out for an arctic expedition in technical gear with boots, knee-high gaiters, base layers and fleece under shells, others wore down jackets, while one Japanese lady was crunching through ice and snow happy as you please in sandals, a halter top, and what looked like thin pajama pants as if she was walking around at home.

Rick M., where did you purchase your wool outer wear? I'm diggin' your system of outerwear.

thanks,
Mongo
