Let's see your 81 stockman.

Yes for a stockman punch ! Kinda like the old schrade 883 , I believe that is the model number with a nice long pull clip , Spey , and punch on the other end .

"...to use for future SFOs." Charlie dont tease me with an 81 SFO! I would be extremely tempted my friend.

Tempted, my behind. I'd buy one or two. I really would like a jigged bone kinda like yours though.

And not with a punch. Have tried, and just not for me lol

Hope this isn't an issue, as I'm bumping this older thread. I've been admiring the 81 Abilene Stockman for a while now. They're fairly scarce on the secondary market, though, it seems. Regardless, I finally snagged a Tidioute in Osage orange, so I'll post up some pics of it later tonight once it arrives :D

I'm pretty excited about this one, and it will definitely be carried and used!

Perfectly acceptable! Maybe it was the same one I was watching on a certain big auction site. Good snag!

I do hope they make some more soon.
We’d like to see pics though. And more as you use it!

Congratulations! You'll love it.

I picked my ebony a few months ago and have been carrying it occasionally.

Oiled up and in the pocket today! Didn't know how I'd feel about the size/length, since it's the largest traditional I own that will get carried in my back pocket. Happy to say it's been a non issue so far and don't see that changing.

My initial impressions are quite favorable. Great walk & talk (especially the closing snap on the secondaries, much crisper than on the 66 Calf ropers), all blades lock up tight, and it's comfortable to grip firmly in saber, hammer and pinch grips. And the coping doesn't ride much, if any at all, above the clip when all blades are closed (pic below). Makes it comfortable to hold. Now to start using this baby!!

I've had several of this pattern, but currently down to just one . . . but a nice one!

I've only got one of the 81 Abilene but when/if they do another run my bank account is going to be in serious trouble.

Don't forget SS backsprings and nickel silver liners.
Sweet dreams are made of these...

Mingecutter,

Beautiful covers you have there. I do like osage orange, here is mine with a 81 bull moose. I sharpen the main toothy for pull cuts, the sheepfoot highly polished for push cuts and the spey is somewhere in between for precise clean cuts to remove wood splinters from my hands. A stockman in all its splendor.
