I know quite abit of you practice archery, some do primitive and some use high tech compound bows even others use crossbows.
I shoot semi primitive I would say, I mean I didn't make my bow but I keep it simple.
My bow is a bear grizzly recurve of late 60's vintage, I use carbon and aluminum arrows(guess thats not to primitive :D).
It has a pull of about 45-50lbs.
Some shots I took today.

A knife bow shot, the knife is a cold steel kudu which is a great knife for the cash, I wear around the yard.
Its german krupp steel is alot like swiss army knife steel, very easy to whip a razor edge on it.

some shots I took with the timer to check my form, my right arm isn't that off its just the angle.

Cool recurve man. I like the vintage bows. Gotta love the lines of a recurve. I will post some pics of my arrow flinger tommarow.

My Dan Toelke Montana Whip longbow. I have a disfigured thumb and Dan made the grip to fit my hand from a tracing and photos. Fits like a glove. Shot this hen in the head last year at 15 yrds. She is cocobolo with bamboo limbs and cedar veneers

Hey, I learned a long time ago. In archery, anything goes for the most part and you do whatever works for you. That is what I love about it. Love those old Bears.

Here are mine. A vintage Ben Pearson Renegade and a Colt Scout. Sources say the Colt might have been made by Damon Howatt. The Renegade is 45#, the Scout 43#.

I wish I did better on the video though.
I was kinda rushing and screwed up abit, infact my last arrow was way off and didn't hit.

Great pictures Mike.
You have great form.
I think I might try out longbows because the recurve has such great of a pull and it has that quick snapping action that I can't really develope a good form.
I still havent bought one of those sweet quivers you use.

macgregor22, I have the same bow in 72lbs. Its the only recurve I have and I carry hunting..mine has the quiver attached. I have a 60lb compound that I have peepsites on..I am pretty deadly with that..but its not as much fun at all. I have some State 3D champ (my dad) and my Brother was a junior champ. I never competed..I just shot at critters and bails of hay. Great bow..IMO. thanks for a cool thread.

I'll have to mesure the pull on mine, I'm just doing it by feel but I think its about 50.
72 wow, that will wear you out quick.

I have been shooting my bow more often recently, bought 3 hours today.

thanks macgregor.. i think developing good form and a solid anchor is very important... i have been shooting for a long time...

i started shooting recurves and have long since switched to longbows... they do tend do be a little more forgiving when shooting... you can really feel the difference...

yikes... 72 pounds.. that's pretty stout... my buddy has one of those... it's fun to shoot.. the thing is crazy fast... i can shoot a quiver or 2 and then i'm done..

macgregor-- from the looks of your bow.. it says it draws 45#'s @28 in. draw length... do you know your draw length... i draw 26 in.. most bows come measured at 28 in., unless custom made otherwise... you usually lose or gain 2-3 pounds per inch, when dealing with draw weight...

I don't know my draw length, have to have my dad help me with that.
I'm also going to by or make something to use as a kisser button to make me more consistant.

While I love the traditional bows (I learned on one), this is my deer slayer:

Matthews Switchback XT
-shot this robin hood on the third arrow i shot through it the day I bought it - absolute blind luck

Sweet lookin machine.

Any of you guys use your bows for fishing?
Say it on Rambo so it must be practical. :D

bear motana longbow pulls at 50, love that instinctive shootin', cedar shafts from 3 rivers archery and a barkie trio on a baldric
