Lets see your bows!

This has got to be one of the coolest threads I've come accross W&SS. Makes me want to take up as well.

147 feet per second is just over 100 Mph. slow by archery standards. However I know of to many incidences of a deer not being able to maneuver out of the path of a vehicle going only about 80 feet per second.

A friend of mine shoots one of those bicycle-bows has so much stuff wrapped around his string to quiet it that it looks like a coon tail. I cant convince my self that it is necessary when that the deer here cant hear a Harley with straight pipes, nor can they jump out of the way of a motorcycle going barely 73 feet per second.

the all wood bows that I make at around 60 lbs draw shoot an arrow at about 122 Miles per hour. thats a hunting weight arrow that will make over 55 foot pounds of energy.
55 foot pounds is enough energy to take a Texas heart shot and have the arrow come out the chest, or shoot completely through a shoulder bone.

Perhaps you missed my post dismissing "super speeds"...and the snappy loud sound part too.

A little video I did today on how quiet she is. The target is 30 yards away and the arrow hitting the target out there is louder than the bow at 4' from the camera. :D

That's a beauty, Riley.

I have a bow that I've started tillering (about 2 years ago :o ). All this bow talk has got me motivated. I only have about 130 jobs to finish up first. :(

I live in town but I can get about 15 yrds shooting into my garage. Trouble is, it's been 2 yrs since I shot my bow and I didn't have alot of practice before. I'm looking for portable backstop that I can open up or something in my garage in case I have a flyer.

Any advice here? Thanks for your time and help!!!

if you loosely hang a thick wool blanket.. (only tack the top of it, and let the bottom swing free) it should stop a moderately powered bow with field points... Ironically if you tack down all 4 corners, and stretch it tight the arrow will go right through... I have a hole in my kitchen door that serves as proof of this. Thanks for the comments on my bow.... I've owned about 3 good trad bows in my life, and this is by far my favorite.. it is Martins entry level (economy bow) and can be had for about 200 smackers. it is the smoothes shooting bow I've shot yet... Soon I'll try a longbow, Ihear there a little more forgiving, and they're just cool.

Twinblade, your bow is just sick.
Mine compared to yours is like a .50 to a .22, of course mine is a recurve and has string slap.

I'm buying a bunch of archery gear tonight, finally got tired of having my arm torn up because my armguard was too short.
Its not really the string as much as the brass nocking points, they have a taste for blood; and every once in awhile because I cant my bow, I end up fudging up.
