Lets See Your Canal Street Cutlery Pics!!

I forgot this external ram's horn Cannitler. Here are the pics right out of my pocket after carrying it for a month.

Do they make it in a Carbon Steel version?

I have not seen any carbon steel knives made by Canal Street. The closest I have seen is D2, which, while actually a stainless steel, has been known to patina if the owner tries hard enough.

These Barlows are giving me an itchy clicker finger. Maybe going to have to find me one.

When I said carbon I meant D2 but I shouldn't have said that I guess because you are right. I should have said tool steel or just D2. :)

I found a dealer that claims they will have the Smooth Sunset Bone version in the beginning of May and looks like it will be selling for about $80 shipped. I'm going to ask around to some of the supporting dealers first and see if they have some coming in as well.

I finally ordered a Pinch Lockback in antique ivory bone over the weekend and it shipped today. I should be able to post some pics and my impressions by the end of the week ;~)

The moose is loose! (Remember those old Moosehead beer commercials? :D ) Here's a drop point hunter with moose antler covers:

Wow the scales on this knife are very unique looking I like them!

Wow - 5 months since a post in this thread.......

Well it seems the knife I finally found that I can open turns out to be the red-headed step child of the traditional forum. Not much love for Canal Street it seems.

I recently added 2 more in a quest to see and feel some different handle covers. The middle one is Smooth Green Camel Bone and the bottom Oiled Ram's Horn.

I was wondering if you got that rams horn half trapper off the bay. Its definitely a beauty.

Here is my latest acquisition. Hell I didn't even know CS made a gunstock until I saw this one.

I was told a new barlow will be appearing shortly...can't wait.

Nice Justin! How is the pull on the gunstock?

Yeah - as I research CS I keep learning and finding more gems.

I'd classify the chestnut half moon as a 2 and the gunstock as a 4. Not as easy but it is pinchable as there is plenty of real estate on that spearpoint to grab it. It also has half stops on both blades.

Only thing I can knock is that the blades are 420. Not that it isn't a decent steel but I would have preferred D2 or their 14-4 latrobe.

I bought it for the long pull though. It was the first I had seen from CS to have one.

So do you have a favorite out of those three?? Visually speaking I love that Green Camel Bone but I love the history and historical value of the American Chestnut. I have a feeling that Green Camel Bone one would find it's way into my pocket quite often though. :)

The American Chestnut is my favorite for sure. The chestnut was a big part of my getting that one as my first Half Moon Trapper.

I live in an area that has a huge logging history dating back to the late 1800's to early 1900's. This is the Big Woods of Pennsylvania. Without going into the whole history, I am fascinated by all this along with the story of the American Chestnut. When we first bought our present home some 20 years ago, one of the out buildings was a carriage house. In the rafters we found a 15" Chestnut board that was 12' long - it was like finding gold! I gave it to my father-in-law who was an avid wood worker. Also I have lived around and worked with the Amish quite a bit, so the history of this certain wood from an old Amish barn just adds to it all.

So for sentimental value, yes, the Chestnut wins. But I am also a fan of the smooth bone and the feel of it.
