Let's see your Charlie SFOs

Sarah, I would guess that this DE Jack was made by Schrade, when it was made? Here again I would say the 1940s. I think most if us would prefer to see a knife age the way you're describing, by use. I'll also imagine that some would like to see a pocket worn look. I've played guitar for 35 years and trust me, none of us will live long enough to see that special guitar or knife age to the extent that the older ones have. People lived a very different life back 70 years ago and there's just not much chance of that except in extreme circumstances.

Well maybe Willie Nelson did :),but that guitar might have been used when he got it.

I'm pretty sure that Willie put a knife to that old classical a few times but I'm also sure it wasn't a Charlie SFO he was using. How was that for keeping it on topic, moderators?:D

Welcome RW, thank you for your service first and foremost and welcome to the best forum on the net:thumbup:

To borrow a New Zealand term, Charlie is "legend" and although he would play that description down he has revitalized a very strong resurgence in the traditional world. You've got a great pair with the Buck and Bull Nose. Your quest for a TC ebony spear will be well worth your effort.

Hope you stick around and I look forward to future posts:thumbup:

Sorry for the late post as I'm not on the internet a great deal. I had no idea how addicting knife collecting would become. I'm already eyeballing a GEC #73 with two full blades and cocobolo handles....really beautiful. I really like these GEC knives!

You have really good taste sir! For my money there's not a better built by hand, or any other means, traditional knife in the whole country!

I've seen a few knives that look like that Guitar!
Nice patina!!:D

I can't decide on this two blade GEC #73. One is a Tidioute ebony and the other is a Northfield Cocobolo. Both are exactly the same but different names. What is the deal with GEC and these other name brands on their knives? Is one better than the other? Is Charlie responsible for either make?

RWJ, Tidioute is the basic brand that GEC uses. Northfield UN-X-LD is a more upscale brand by GEC. I am not responsible for the #73s. They are likely GEC's standard production. I "borrow" both brands for my SFOs.

Where do you live in NY?? I'm from Buffalo, originally!!

Hey Charlie, thanks for your personal reply! I live in Pulaski NY....Salmon Capital of NY State. I protect the nuclear power plants out this way doing armed security. I have been going crazy as of late buying knives and now I want another! Really like GEC....outstanding cutlery! Buffalo got pounded a couple weeks ago with 6 feet of snow in one storm!!. My dad used to live on Grand Island when he worked for GM.

Cool, Jonesy! My brother worked for GM in his younger days, and still braves the snow, living in Buffalo's suburb of Clarence. He does get less snow, slightly northeast of the city. Your job is crucial in today's world climate, both physical and political!!

This knife ranks for me, right up there with my favorite SFOs. An old friend of mine did the major work, assembly and hafting, on every one of them, and did a great job. A couple of them are going to appear under certain Christmas trees, later this month!:D

Except for the Stag, this knife is completely stainless steel!

What lucky people who get to unwrap THOSE presents Charlie!!! Eric did a outstanding job on those Barlows I figure I will have mine till the end of my time thats for sure.
Speaking of Charlie SFO's...here is ( I was going to type "One of my Favourites" - but all of them are honestly ) an outstanding knife, i was a little afraid when I saw a few of the earlier photo's that the lighting tended to show a little pinkish tone to the Bone - but when I received mine yesterday - I just about jumped for joy...just simply beautiful...this knife really is beautiful - outstanding fit and finish, the Bone is simply stunning ......

This isnt the best shot of the knife - but it shows the Bone colour beautifully....

Thank you Barry for your excellent choice - that is what an outstading Dealer does for you when you are over the other side of the world, and Charlie - you did good Sir...

Very nice Charlie:thumbup:

Beautiful knife Duncan and a great picture of it:thumbup:

Tx_planes, beautiful knife and picture as well, that marrow channel if fantastic:thumbup:

I apologize if this has already been covered, but are the TC barlows a yearly limited production kind of thing? If they are, is there a general part of the year you should look out for them?
