Lets see your CPK in Leather!

I’ve only done a few of these because they are a PITA, here’s an HDFK sheath I recently finished up that’s crafted from the topside hide of a gator tail. All of the little bumps are loaded with the cartilage from the gator so they’re hell on needles and finishing the edges takes a little black magic. The picture doesn’t do justice to the texture, some of them stand over 1/8” high from the sheath body.

The variety of leather you and Sharp & Fiery Sharp & Fiery stock is amazing.

That thing is gorgeous Chad!

Hey Chad! Long time.

Is that legit alligator tail? Or Croc tail?
I’ve used South African Croc Tail on a few sheaths and man, that stuff is an absolute pain. The croc bone sits anywhere from 1/8” to 1/2” above the sheath. It’s insane, but the reward when completed is satisfying!

Most excellent job on a nice looking sheath, as always.

Hope to see you again soon.

Thanks! Good to hear from you!

I don’t use anything embossed. I edited my post to take out tail because these cuts aren’t from the tail, not sure why I put that. The scales grow with age and farm raised gators tend to be harvested younger for the meat. This one was cut from a transition spot because the ridges aren’t as high on the spine side of the sheath but the cartilage chips are in there.

I have had larger as well, made my daughter a belt from one I had around that was in a not so sheath friendly color 😉

That’s cool. Gator. I’m interested now. Looks like it’s a bit easier to work with than Salt Water Croc. That croc has bone so hard that there is no way you could push a needle through. It needed to be drilled. Huge PIA. I should DM you photos of the box of Croc I still have. Haha! I’ll get at them again one day, but man, the price of the finished sheaths are ridiculous because of all the time spent.

I’m super glad you are on the forums again and hope your family is all doing well.
