Lets See Your Custom Southard!

My Southard just returned from a visit to Barry H. for some of the slimmed down LSCF love he showed off here previously.

I have to say, I love the result. Here it is in a few quick first snapshots, with a deep pocket custom clip by STR:

Really nice! That's the way Spydie should have released this knife (or at least with a thinner black scale). The STR clip is a great addition.

I really love Barry H's slim LSCF scale - How do I get in contact with him?

Sorry - Newbie here.

I got the STR clip - which is awesome - and now I want that scale mod.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks guys,
Pat

Yup. Little project for myself last night. First time to ever RIT dye some scales and it could not have been easier! 1 pack black RIT dye powder in 4 cups water...boil....let scales and OT button soak in the mix for 30 minutes, rinse off and done.

You sir are a genius!!! I was going to have some custom scales made, but will be going this route instead!!!

I think the black scale looks much better than the brown. And the cost to die the stock scale is insignificant compared to some of the prices I've seen to create a custom scale (would you believe more than the cost of the knife itself? )

I got a quote of $96 for a set of new scales. Not a bad price considering the high quality of the work, but it looks like I'll be saving myself about $90 now! LOL!!!:p:D:thumbup:

Here's a few of mine that I recently did :)

Wow Shepard, you do some nice work! Have you done a rough Blue g10 scale like that orange you have in the pics? I'm curious what that would look like on a Southard.

I actually haven't seen anyone offer the textured blue G10 yet. I've seen a few different ones that they are slowly releasing like brown and black coarse g10.

There are a lot of hobbies where it costs more to customize the item than the item itself.
Especially guns. I have seen tons of 450-550 Glocks sporting 600 micro red dot sights. I know guys that have more money in mags than the gun itself.
Rifles. Most nice scopes cost more than the rifles.
AR & AK are 500-600 rifle platforms that have 400-600 aim points etc.

It's all about what you want. Like most things people don't appreciate someone's handmade hard work until they try it themselves and see the difficulties of it. Especially when the work is done without you watching. I mean you can watch landscapers breaking their backs to make your home look nicer. You pay for not being in the hot sun with shovels digging and moving rock and earth. Just an easy example for many things.
You want handmade quality you are going to pay more for it than some item that is machine made and pumped out of some Chinese factory.
It's like comparing a handmade hand carved oak table to something you'd buy at ikea.

But let's keep this on topic and enjoy the custom work no matter the cost.

Wood scales by Spketch. Pictures don't really do it justice. I anodized the Ti with 9 volts. I also rounded the pocket clip with a file after an acid stone wash and etched my initials into it.

Looks great. That scales is gorgeous, Steve does some beautiful work.

I'm mostly rotating between my slimmer, LSCF version by Barry H. (above in this thread) and this one in stabilized black palm by Steve:

I like the wood scales sketch makes. I make a lot of scales but I don't work with wood and I have been wanting one. I'll have to send him an email soon :)
