Let's see your desks!

Plenty of natural beauty there, don't get me wrong, but the mountains just have a special something ...

Yep. You did it right. Save the pennies for some nice mountain home to enjoy as soon as you can get there.

I try to tell myself about the good things the Houston areas has to offer. It is actually a very pretty day here today - it happens on occassion.

Houston has lots of green and water and not too cold... But, the humidity and mosquitos. :barf:

I was able to live in Austin for about 9 years. I WAY prefer Austin. But, some family things caused me to have to move back to Houston and it looks like I will probably be stuck here for a while. :(

I need to start saving. :o

Coupled with that Mapletree Audio tube amp, it's like something out of a dream!:thumbup::thumbup:

Here's a shot of the amp. It's hand made (point to point wiring) by Dr Lloyd Peppard in Seeley's Bay, Ontario.

GORGEOUS! I have heard GREAT things about Mapletree. Peppard's amps seem to get great "Value" reviews comparing to much more expensive equipment (????)

Either way, still not cheap and I can't afford right now, but my plan was/is??? to get some headphone amp similar for next to my desk. When I do, most of the Mapletree amps seem to be in about the price range I was "hoping" to justify - $700 - $1,000 (???) - then add a nice head-rest to my reclining desk chair. ;)

But, my "list" of tube or (????) solid state "options" just keeps getting longer and more confusing.

I have browsed through head-fi a bit hear and there and even a member and posted a bit. But, I get info over-load and Virtigo from trying to figure things out over there. Man - and you think knife people have a lot of different opinions!!!

Then if THAT is confusing enough, they start talking about "Tube Rolling" and "Opamps" and "Buffers" and "Black Gates", etc. etc. and all sorts of other options to muddy the water with other variables. I "LITERALLY" have gotten head-aches trying to figure things out over there. I am getting a bit blurry in my head just thinking about it now. :(

Ideally, I guess I need to go to one of those "Meets" some day (????) - find what sounds good and just go with it. As big a city as Houston, and I don't know of any stereo store that has any significant variety of the high end headphone equipment to go sample.

I prioritize function (sound), but some of that equipment gets just awesome to look at.

What are you using for a DAC? - I don't see one. Source?

Just my PC's sound card. It's a Bgears b-Enspirer 24bit soundcard and does the job well enough that I don't feel compelled to buy a separate DAC.

Coupled with foobar2000 and ASIO out, sound quality is very good.

The world of audio equipment can certainly be overwhelming though. My decision to buy the GS1000i and MAD Amp wasn't made easily!

I have the foobar2000, but I honestly can't discern any improvements between it and other media players.

But, I don't have a good DAC/sound card on my computer, so who knows.

I don't know what ASIO is (????). I guess I can go look it up when I get a chance, but need to go eat.

I did run computer source through my D10's DAC and amp and it improves sound over my sound card quite a bit, but I don't think the D10 powers my AKG's sufficiently.

Anyway.... someday.
