Lets see your first knife vs. last!

First one made in 2010. Last one made 2017. The main thing I notice on the first to the later ones is better attention to detail. Better hand sanding, finishing the handles all the way, etc..

I'm bad about taking pictures but number 1, number about 8 and the latest before it was 100% finished. Number 1 was from an old file I found buried on my property.

It's funny how relative the looks can be. I remember how proud I was of my first knife, I wasn't even sure it was possible to improve on it. Now, looking back, it looks like an entry level prison shank.

i agree currenthill. i was proud of every knife, and showed it off. now i look back at old photos of them and hope no one ever sees them lol. so far it looks like i win the prize for "worst" 1st knife. i gladly accept it with a smile. its been a long road but i can finally made a decent knife.

Early knives are like pictures of any of us who grew up any time between say 1966 and 1986. Yeah it was a lot of fun, but you don’t want anyone to see what you were wearing or your hairdo.

Even funnier is that some of my relatives who visited during christmas actually went through my "first-couple-of-knives-bin" and they didn't really see the difference between my Then and Now knives. Not sure how to interpret that, really.

Haha....its not so great. Its got a LONG list of problems, not the least of which is the dymondwood handle.

My name is stamped with individual letter stamps. They're crooked as all get out and the letters are different sizes.

As for the edge......I have a wood splitting maul that would be a more delicate slicer.

Here’s my first from around August of 2016 and the others are some Christmas gifts that I finished up last month. Still have a long way to go but definitely making progress! I’ve realized that it’s easy to get overwhelmed with orders, which hasn’t let me try new techniques. So hopefully I can try some new stuff now that Christmas is over!
