Not mine anymore, so maybe I should let the current owner post, but I loved the cocobolo of this one while I had it.

Edit: Dagnabbit. I looked at the thread title and saw "73s" instead of "72s". I hope that 73s are welcome in this thread!:o

Wow - some nice #72s here. Great color on your new one, Ash. And, damn, I sure missed out on those elk beauties -very rare knives.

Here's an old pic of a pair of my faves in red stag:

What's the length of the blades on those #72s?

Would love to know the length for both blade types. Particularly interested in the spear points. In my heart of hearts, I know I'm going to get one someday.

The #72s are 3-7/8" closed, with a 3" blade. Average handle thickness is just under 1/2".

Hmm... One vendor (gpknives) lists them a 3.75" closed with a blade of 2.87" in length. I never know exactly how folks measure blade lengths (tip to start of tang or tip to bolster) but I do know that this is about the difference on the books between a Buck 500 and a Buck 501 and that minor difference in length makes for a massive difference in the hand. The 500 is a LOT more knife than the 501.

Maybe that's what I should ask. Anybody have any shots of a #72 side by each with either a Buck 500 or 501 (or another well know knife)?

When I measured mine, which was not a spear blade, I did just the cutting surface (so tip to tang), and it was 2.875".

Only one for me but I'm a big fan of the pattern

The Red Elk above moved on as has these two. I love the look of these clips with the long pull. I wish GEC made the 440c ones like this.
