Let's see your good old basic fixed blades, Bowie's, Stickers, etc.

I'm picking these up tonight.
What do you think?

Western H40 J (1996)
Buck 119 (1995)
Buck 119 (2002)
Ka-Bar model/date unknown. Tang stamp suggests 1950-1970

I think the western is actually 1986, because believe by the 90's the western knives which were owned / made by Camillus at that point were all Stainless steel and basically rebrands of Camillus knives.

I also think you got some great knives.

Yes. You are correct. 1986. I mistyped. Interestingly, indication on the Ka-Bar strongly suggest it is WWII era. I'll be putting the question to the experts here.

Somebody will confirm, but I believe they made so many mk2's during the war that they didn't need to make another till introducing their 1st commemorative examples sometime in the 70's.

Yes. 1976. So 50 years old now. Probably pretty easy to mistake a beat up one for an 80 year old one now.
I think the earliest reissues looked pretty close to the originals with things soon changing to what we get with the 1217 today ?

Either way if the tang stamp chart says '50-'70 that couldn't apply to your knife.
A lot of tang stamp charts are like this, the Eestern charts that don't apply very well to the pocket knives, Case charts that don't apply well to the fixed blades...etc.
I don't think there's any tang stamp charts available ( besides maybe Buck ) regardless of brand that are 100% accurate.

I agree. The tang stamp records are really spotty.
The most common difference between the the originals, or at least WWII era, and the reissues is the way the pommels are attached.

I have Camper the travelling Muk today. Nothing very exciting to report.

It's hot and nasty out there.

How do you like it?
I have a few LT knives, and always thought about getting a muk of theirs...... but Then I started making, and didn't....
And worse part yet is I still don't have any Muk's

I love 8670 more than I thought I would.....

It kinda reminds me of AEB-L, and 15n20.... In that those steels can be ANYTHING you want them to be!
Pretty special actually

edit:
I think 80crv2 is like That too..... can be Awesome ran normal, or Hard.
-but I haven't run it really Hard, yet...but I think it can

Yes 8670 is very special. Can make any kind of knife out of it. Like most steels 🤣

So far so good. I only have it for a couple weeks and it's just day one.

It didn't get into anything heavy today but did fine with the normal day to day stuff.

I'm definitely going to trace a profile before sending it to the next participant. Lol!

Ya know, a little muk might look extra nice next to a LARGER looking muk-like blade.....................
