Good hunting Anthony.
very nice and solid blade. Here in sweden I rmember the type of knife being called "Buffalo Skinner"

Im curious, do you hunt those pigs with help of dogs?
Here in sweden the boars wigh about 100 - 200 kilos depending on gender and age, are yours the same size?

Here almost none own a pistol and if we do they arent used for hunting. Its not in our traditions at all.
We use rifles from 6.5X55 and up for our pigs and mabye 9.3X62 or 30-06 is the most recomended for the type of hunt. The same anyway as for moose and brown bear.

They even did a Rockwell test on each blade. This one's 59.

I loaned mine to a "friend" to use on a hog he had killed. I never saw it again. That is one of the finest blades ever made. I miss mine more than anything else that I've lost.

I've got to agree, the knife and sheath are excellent. They put Bucks from the same era to shame.

Talk about old and "basic".
Just got this old stock Herters "Sportsman Knife" from Murphys.
The handles pretty crude but it has a nice piece of carbon steel and feels good in the hand.
Even came with a simple but servicable sheath.
I'll smooth the handle up a little, give the sheath a little love with some Neets, and throw it in the camp box.
Definatly nothing spectacular, but it's got some history, and at 22.00 shipped, I'm happy. (But then, I'm a simple man, :o )

Nice blades Fes, 'too rare to be worth anything" still goes over my head  ...any guy ( in Other words ALL OF US!!! ) who collects knives , and who knows about a Maker ( and who hasnt heard of Wade and Butcher! ) that if you never see 13inch Wade and Butcher circa 1920's..and yet see HUNDREDS of the 10 inch versions.....Please...please dont tell me you wouldnt open your wallet a little quicker once viewing a nice condition 13 inch model...why?.....simply because there arent enough of them around for you to have seen, yet alone handled one! and yet we all know that your pal would give his lefty for one!
Another note ... the early English versions of these knives are always said to be copies of the Marbles knives...and yet the "perception" is that they are very much inferior to the Marbles..and yet I have to see or read any actual proof of this being any sort of fact...in other words, that is a darn nice knife right there my friend!
