Done a little more research on this, if the cutting edge is stamped "Mill Supply Inc." it is 1084 with a HT of r30. That would be great chopper iron, I'll have to keep an eye open for these. Most are of mild steel with a tungsten carbide coating or "carbide cementing" such as the cutting teeth on a backhoe bucket but then some are as-cast ductile iron which has a lot of other alloys in it for hardness but makes it useless for forging. AND it looks like the poly blades are going to put steel edges out of business. Cheaper and they don't rust in the brine solution being used.Havnt changed the ones we use to plow for the town at my company in at least six years started six years ago)

You want your first knife to be made out of homemade scrap damascus! Aiming high! I like it!Congratz to all of theese fine knives!
I´m still thinking a long time about making my first own knife of chain of a chainsaw, or a few chains
