Let's see your "sneaky" family knives! (Asp, Big Sneaky, Scorpion, Sneaky Pete)

Yeah, it does!
I love burlap in general, they have 3D effect look and it has more grip compared to other synthetic materials.

a2vg1095,

You have the best collection and variety of Sneaky Petes that I have seen in one place. I like tapered tangs, so the Black burlap and Ruby burlap ones are my favorites of your collection. Great variety of colors there. All synthetics means you are my kind of guy.

Thanks for sharing the nice photos.

Phil

Thanks Phil, (didn't see your post until today).
Yeah, I didn't know what the deal was with TT until I got the Black burlap. The balance makes it that much of a difference.
I guess photobucket don't keep the photos, I post up.

With photobucket, you have to be sure that you don't move photos to different files after you post or you will break the chain to your link. I hope that helps.

Yeah, where is the balance point on you alls tapered SPs vs non-tapered? On my non-tapered 5/32 SP it's at the end of the palm swell, toward the blade. This is a little further from the bolster than I am accustomed, but I'm not entirely sure I dislike it. It has a very different heft than my other 4"+ knives. My 2.25" BHK blade has it around the same place though. I'm guessing a tapered tang would move the balance point up to around the lower forward pin?

Yeah, I must have moved the files and not realize it. thanks...

The TT balance point are just slightly toward the blade on my SP. The TT on 5/32" feels very nimble in the hand but still have the heftiness, if that makes any sense. I guess, it's one of those things you have to handle it for yourself.
1/8" TT feels very light. I personally like some weight in my hand, on 4" blade with 1/8" thickness I would prefer SFT.

EPL,

Balance is a personal choice and there are no wrong answers here. You have to figure out what works best for you and focus on the models, tang types, and material thicknesses that match your preference(s).

Here is my Sneaky Pete in 5/32” O1 with SFT tang. It balances 3/8” behind the front set of pins. This was one of the first Fiddlebacks that I bought and my first Shadetree burlap handle. I still like this knife a lot for everything that I do with a 4” knife. I really like the SP handle.

Here is my Big Sneaky in 5/32” O1 with a tapered tang. It balances about 3/8” ahead of the front set of pins. My preference is for a neutral balance on the bigger knives. Using that criteria, this is tied for the best balanced Fiddleback I own.

As a general rule, tapered tangs will move the balance point forward. Less so on 1/8” steel than 5/32” or 3/16”. Handle material and final thickness after shaping also contribute to the balance equation.

Thanks again for posting a good question.

Phil

Thanks a lot Phil, that was very informative. I also appreciate the information you provided in Mistwalker's thread on knife stats.

Yes, it's looking like your 5/32nd SFT Burlap SP and mine have the balance point in the exact same location. I quite like the knife at this point and ordered up one of Bonafide's sheaths for it which he rather miraculously just finished today.

Definitely now on the prowl for a TT Fiddleback of some sort though...even another Sneaky, as you guys are correct, the handle and profile on this thing is hard to beat.
