Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

Here you go with an 087 Jack. Not as impressive, but it had a lot of pocket time from someone over the years. I carry this little guy a lot.

I like the mellow colors on these knives a lot.
That's how yellow and red should look...:)
Thanks for posting!

Here are 2 EE knives, shown with a 6245 (3 3/4") at bottom, from a previous post. They are a 06230 and a 06230 1/2!! They are each single spring Case Testeds at 3 1/4"+, and were discontinued when Case changed to the XX stamping around 1940!!
They were also made as a regular Jack knife, the 6230 and 6230 1/2 (without the "0" prefix), but I've never been able to find either Jack!
A couple of rare ones!!:)

I passed on this one last week but just had to go back yesterday and get it. New in the box 1988 Case XX USA 6347 HP SSP stockman with "raised lettering" shield (only used 1987-89). (HP = sHeepsfoot + sPey; SSP = glazed finish stainless steel with polished edge.)

I'd be curious if anyone has an idea as to what color and jigging this bone is. My first guess would be "chestnut.". (Edit: After looking and comparing some more I'm thinking brown instead.)

Charlie, I'm no expert, but I have an expert's book. :D

From Collecting Case Knives by Steve Pfeiffer
CASE TESTED ERA - "CLOSED C" SHIELD
During the Case Tested era and on earlier knives, an oval shield that Case collectors refer to as the "closed C" shield was used. The "C" in the word CASE will be formed in a circular shape with the two end points drawing close together. This shield will also be found on some early CASE XX-stamped knives.

CASE XX ERA - "TALL S" SHIELD
The Case XX era saw the introduction of a Case oval shield with two differences. The "C" is no longer "closed" as the points are spread out, each at an angle of about 45 degrees. This is often called the "open C" shield, but the "S" is also taller than the later "open C" shield introduced during the mid-1960s. Many knives with the CASE TESTED tang stamping will also be found with this "open C".

CASE XX USA ERA
On these shields the "C" will still be "open" and the "S" will be flatter at the top as compared to the "tall S" shields of the XX era. Again, the transition must have taken some years as both the "tall S" and the "flat S" shields will be found on CASE XX and CASE XX USA stamped knives. Use of the "flat S" design continued into the 1970s.

A Case 02 pattern barehead jack and a Case 53 pattern equal end cattle knife, neither with stamped pattern numbers, both from 1920-1940:
