Let's see your Traditional Case knives, old to new.

With a 3.5" blade this one is larger than my usual. I love the ergonomics, jigging and slicing ability. It's light enough to be a good back pocket folder for when a fixed blade is just a bit too much.

These Teardrops are continuing the trend of F&F, my Teardrops have been the most consistent pattern I've gotten from Case. I've been very happy with the Teardrops.

Blades centered or very close to centered, little or no blade play, minimal or no gap between lock and liner, pins/ handle material/ bolster finish good. The one slightly negative constant has been pulls a bit weaker than my other Case knives.

And like with a couple of my other non-pocketworn jigged bone Case, this one has jigging sharp enough it catches cloth and grabs skins. I'll take some fine sandpaper and slowly work the sharp of the jigging like I did with the others.

One more smooth natural bone (smaller shield, non-pvd blade) should arrive this week. Will have to update the family photo.

Fine and unusual pattern the Teardrop, wouldn't mind getting a Wharncliffe version, are any Barehead?

I have you to blame thank for me getting the jigged amber bone barehead...

Not sure about a barehead Wharncliffe Teardrop. Mine is not, and with green curly maple.

I've noticed the Teardrops seem to be disappearing from stores here. I hope it's not going to be retired/ placed in the vault.

seein' your Whaler got me thinkin'... I might need to add a one to my herd
Can you tell me what to expect in regard to pull (1-10 with 5 being a Victorinox is always a good scale if possible)
Thanks

Sorry for the belated response. I wanted to check out the knife again before responding, but I forgot to do it 😞

The rope knife in the post you linked to is about a 7 to 8. The Case Whaler that I own is about a 5.

A Adam5 Thanks for the info. The rope knife interest me most. Since I like a firm pull now I know how to pursue it. A certain auction sight has some listed but calls them a Whaler. It always helps to know the correct name.

What pattern is that James? It looks like a cross between a copperhead and a saddlehorn. And, what size is it?

Alan, the tang is stamped 61100. So Case's pattern #100 in jigged handle (6) with one blade (1).
It does seem to have a copperhead bolster.
Some call it the large saddlehorn being the larger of the two Case offers but Case simply lists it as "Saddlehorn".
At 4 5/8" closed it's just slightly smaller than a Buck 110 but much lighter (sorry don't have actual specs) and no lock.

Thanks James. That is the pattern number for the saddlehorn. I was fooled by the angle of the photo. It looks great there, but just too big for me to carry.

They look great Gordon, you have fine taste. 👍

Thank you.

To be honest, I wasn't even going to get one originally as I thought them to be a very odd pattern. I still think it's a bit odd, but after getting one in-hand it didn't take long to decide I really liked the pattern.

I don’t own a single tear drop, I’ll get one someday though. I like all of the ones you chose.

Is the case pattern #5288 (4.125" half congress) only made in one run of 5000 "American blade" knives with stag? Anyone have a large half congress? Maybe a different pattern number, something 3.5-4"?

I've been casually looking at the 62052 which is 3.375" but the only large half congress I can find is that 5288 and it seems like it was just a special run.

Sorry if this isn't the place to ask but I can't find much on this pattern. If I should move this question please let me know

A nice Case 1971 medium redbone stockman for photo to add to the thread. Unrelated to the question, unfortunately.

Oldy Oldy I'm sorry I don't know, it was a gift from a Forumite long ago and is very nice type of pick bone but as it came with no box I can't say. It is attractive and it's from around 1978 I suspect.

Thanks, Will
