Lets See Your Traditional Smooth Bone

I HAVE A QUESTION! 😁

Do any of you kind people have an example of how white bone “mellows” over time with edc type use? Several years of use…but not antique examples.
White Bone Yellows as it mellows! :) This Swan Works jack is a bit older than you specified, and so is a more extreme, but good, example! The knife is of all steel construction, liners and pins, so is not subject to verdigris which can infuse 'green' around the pins. Bone is porous and absorbs oils from your hands and other use, which causes coloration. It will absorb some reddish stains from rust, as you can see from the pile side, bottom pin! This knife might date from the 1920s to 1930s!!
The mark side color approaches the yellow of the background material!!

JonMcD JonMcD Seems to me that it's the GEC knives that very typically take on a yellow/old ivory hue and very attractive too. But this can happen without use, I've a 38 Farmer's Jack stowed away in a knife roll that's an exceptional rich colour despite minimal handling, no light and no tasks. Whereas , a Fontenille-Pataud Laguiole of mine has been used a lot since 2014 yet shows minimal colour change, some but not much. The F-P is all stainless construction and the GEC knives either brass liner or carbon liner, can this be the key?

Can't say how CASE bone will 'mature' but it might.

This 15 has been shown a lot don't want to keep boring people with it... but I'm proud of it. We could all do with some more Ivory smooth bone from GEC that's a fact. I'd like to see jigged Ivory bone from them or Ivory that's been scratted in some way, a nice possibility.

Smooth bone seems to get less attention than jigged bone around here.
Don't be Shy! Show off your smooth Bone! All brands and patterns welcome! 😁

Rough Rider (large) RR139 White Bone Sleeve Board Sunfish and RR887 "Smooth Tobacco Bone" (looks more like Appaloosa bone to me) "Outdoorsman" Series large equal end sunfish.

Now I realised I don’t think I have any smooth bone knives. I’ll have to do something about that I guess

'Improved' Smooth Bone - scrim was done years ago by a very talented American woman and I got this for a good price from the Bay, she put in the details I asked for.

Wow, I'm a fan of scrimshaw, particularly with an ocean/boat theme. I have just a couple i've found over the years - 1980's Parkers. Yours is beautiful. An RR barlow bone with scrimshaw, nice!

I carry and use this one quite a bit. It always makes me smile when I pull it out. Made by Case in the late 70’s “Moby Dick”.

There were 2 of these sold in little shadow boxes for display. This one was missing its display case so it was sold as a user.

Very cool example Charlie! Thanks so much for sharing. This one has developed a great uniform yellowing.

Great range of color variation here Doug! Thanks for the examples!

It will be interesting to see the difference based on how Case treats and seals their bone. Your 15 is 👌🏼😎.
Salivating over here Dan. So good.
