Lets Start Early… 30year C36

hank_rearden hank_rearden What steel was rusting on you?? Im pretty sure full Ti handles only ever had S30v blades.
S30V. No fault of the steel. I use it too often and usually forget to clean after use. That's the G-10 version. As to the ti millie, yep, it will rust when left out too long on a table or shelf. I need to oil it once in a while. And it should be stored in closed position. Otherwise, both the tang notch and the stop pin will rust.

So I have been thinkin about this and thought of something unique

@Sal Glesser and everyone else…

What about fluted titanium handles but with the standard Walker liner lock?

It would give a super clean look to the scales (which the lock side scale on the fluted RIL didnt have) and would be something that hasnt been done yet on a Military. Perfect for a go big 30 year special run! Who knows what steel, by then there will be super-ultra-magncut-450vn!
The Military was designed to be a lightweight yet robust cutting tool. Metal handles - and yes, titanium is metal - add unnecessary weight. The only place metal belongs in that handle is in the liners. Make those out of titanium if you like. It might save a few grams, although at the cost of reducing the life of the lock and increasing the price of the knife. Otherwise, you're trying to make a Ferrari into a dumptruck.

I read that last post by Riz! Riz! too quickly and thought it was a call for fluted cf like the Native. Now that would be spectacular

Fluted carbon fiber would be awesome too.

The entire reason for this post is because I think we should convince Spyderco to do something special to honor what I believe is one of, if not, the best folders there is.

Since others have posted pics of their Millies, here's a pic of mine, too:

Top to bottom…
S30V Lefty
M4 dlc CF/Ti blacked out franken-millie.
S90V CF/Ti KW exclusive
S30V Blackout
Rex 45
S110V
S30V Camo

I have a standard version in my work pants and two backup lefties in the closet.

A couple fluted carbon fiber and exotic steel 30year millies would really top of the collection.

I would say a fluted carbon fiber S90v would be great. Similar to the Native 5. It would be such a classy way to celebrate the model. It could be regular production like the native 5 but in smaller numbers.

I am waiting for the 4V to drop. I hope I don’t miss it, guessing it will be 50/50 to get one.

I could get behind fluted CF, especially with 3V or 4V. For that matter, I'm really liking CPM Rex76.

Is it technically possible to do a fluted titanium handle but still with liner lock? And I'd like the ti handle to be chamfered a bit more than before. I don't care much about the blade steel.

I think it would be easy. The only difference would be the scales are titanium instead of G10. It could use the standard steel liner lock

Just bought a LNIB 2 screw clip Gen 1 ATS-34 C36GS Millie for a "reasonable price" :) . . .

but it's coming from Japan, so won't get it for a couple of weeks. :(

Now I just have to find a PE version for a similar price (that's the hard part) to pair with it. ;)

Hi Riz,

Interesting concept.

My preference would be to continue the Military model with a the current Walker Linerlock. Maybe with SPY27. And not disco the version. Sales will determine that decision.

We haven't had much of a positive response with 3V, especially since 4V came out.

I would prefer to not use a RIL on our regular version.

I'll watch the thread to see the opinions of others.

sal
Linerlock is fine.
I would like a full serrated version.
I have a full serrated Military, but I would really like to get a new one.

Full peel-ply carbon fiber scales would be nice (no laminated G10/carbon fiber).
I'm sure just about steel you choose would be fine. :)

I would buy one in 4V, that seems a good steel for this app, tough but with more edge retention than 3V, and enough size to utilize it. If not, maybe Cruwear? I just like tool steels, but Magnacut would work.

The fluted Ti seems like a very signature "Military" look, but since 4V is usually burgundy from St Nicks, what about, burgundy red micarta? THAT would be an instant buy. I "only" have a 440V S/E Military, and am also excited for the Military 2.

If they still make the stainless, saber, "POLICE" Police, they will still make the Military. It is a very distinct, well loved model.
I love the new serration pattern on the newer Police 4's, though, super nice.

The aluminum PM2 is lighter than the G10 version, people do not like it as much as a material, but it rose to be one of my top PM2s.

A show side scale from the damacus pattern featuring the Spyderco logo in a web pattern like the 25 Anniversary Delica would be really cool for the 30th Military. I would say the cost would be really high on that knife though.

I will buy any new Millie built on the existing platform, anniversary model 😋 or not. I will most likely avoid the Military 2, or any Spyderco that uses the stupid huge/deep 50/50 choil for that matter, I guess I'll be ok with the current accumulation.

The Military is an amazing platform. I would say fluted CF handled, nested liner, and a damascus blade. Much like the special anniversary Native
