Let's talk about the Spyderco Military

they keep coming up with all these sprint runs but maybe it's time for them to try to improve the actual design like they did with the paramilitary , not saying the current one is bad but maybe it could be improved like a different lock like a compression , just an indea

I am not familiar with the compression lock. Is it really good? What do you like about it? How does it differ in laymans terms over a liner lock or lock back? Thanks!

I like those scales.

Apologies, this in in response to the Zombie Millie, got posted under this comment:

I am considering doing this on a Kershaw of mine for practice(if it doesn't work, I've only ruined a 70 dollar knife instead of a precious Millie) but, I am concerned the color may wear or rub off in a pocket, especially if it is some kind of paint. Do you see this as an issue or do you think it will be ok to pocket carry?

There have been a lot of threads about that, including posts from Sal Glesser. It's an ongoing project.

Look what came today. Military cruwear. What a awesome knife, still easy to carry like all spydercos I have had yet a nice sized knife. Fits in my hand like a glove. Thank you BF and Sal and everyone involved with spyderco for putting out fantastic products and service

I've sold about 3 M390's, an S90V, a Ti, and after reading up on some testing done in comparison to CPM-M4, I decided I didn't need to pull the trigger on the Cruwear. The CPM-M4 in full Ti remains my favorite Spyderco, and one of my favorite knives overall.

This is SUPER COOL!!! I tried to put my M390 in my full Ti, when I got it back together, it had lock rock. Maybe .01 or so, but noticeable to ME. So I switched it out, and my Cruwear steel rides in my Ti Millie. I love M4 steel in full Ti though!

Thanks. I have a couple of user Ti Militaries waiting for future sprint run blades to go in. My M390 blade works fine in the Ti, lockup is about 30% but I just haven't used it as much as the M4. Did your Ti donor have the lockbar insert?

It's a great knife, for me and many others it's a bit big, (but great with gloves on!) and I think that's a big reason the PM2 is such a huge hit, also the instant they make one with a compression lock I'm all over it. Now that we have "better" options like the Axis, Compression, Ball bearing, Bolt etc. I find myself seeing the liner lock over the years as more and more of a detractor than a feature.

I own 9 Militaries, and would not change anything except maybe to have a deep, wire clip option. I much prefer the current liner lock over the Para 2's compression lock. [The compression lock actually is a liner lock - just on the "wrong" side of the knife.] I do love the Military and Para 2 (and also the original Para-Military), and if I was limited to just one knife [yikes!] it would be a Military or Para 2.

I own 2 Millies, the first in 440V bought many years ago, and one bought in 2010 in S30V. I really like the Military, and my hands are about average-sized. I also own a PM2, and really like the compression lock. Probably even like the concept of it better than the liner lock.

I love these knives, but oddly, I rarely carry them, since my most-used Spydies are a Pacific and Tasman. But when I do reach for one to carry/use, it's mostly the S30V Military. Even though the PM2 "should" appeal to me more, and it's great, for some reason, the Millie seems to get the nod more often than not. And IMO, it's one of, if not the, best examples of a liner lock out there.

I love the Military, there are only a couple of things I would change. One is the cutout for the lock, I would prefer to not have it so deep. It's like that for a reason and the solution is for me to make or get a replacement scale with less cutout. The other is the shape of the back of the handle and obviously there is no way to address that since so many people complain about it and no one seems to take care of it......(SARCASM)

I think I'd better get a backup in case Sal decides to make any of the numerous changes that have been suggested for it. In my opinion it is a classic that should be left as is and preferably be available for future generations.

in my opinion, spyderco's three masterpieces are the military, the delica, and the stretch. all others are just attempts at improvement, or meant to broaden the market.

I need another Military in my life. Sold all mine a year ago and regret it. A great outdoors blade if you ask me

Just bought my first Military a few days ago and I'm loving it so far. It just seems to fit in my hand perfectly.

I can buy what you are selling. I would however even though technically a spin off of the Military put the Para Military 2 as a masterpiece. I carry my Military to work and anywhere I want, but the Para Military 2 is a more ideal size, and I love the compression lock. I would be curious to know what Sal sees as his or Spyderco's masterpieces.
