Lets talk GEC!

I'd really like to see a Barlow in a larger pattern size, along the lines of a 44. Make it a clip point and in a good sized run so the average GEC fan could get it easily. And since I'm wishing give it a half stop and a long pull instead of a nail nick.

I do like that one in Mesquite and feel very fortunate to have been able to get in on one of Mike's last GEC SFOs. I feel more compelled to put the Redtails to use though, for whatever reason - maybe it is that classic "Remington" look and feel that they have.

There will certainly be some pictures when it arrives. I am just hoping that this second batch that they just wrapped up is of the same quality as their first batch.
I feel the same way about redtail 23 - begs to be used. I love the remington look - I just picked up a LL from the second batch and on mine the quality is outstanding!

Well , you see it is this way : I do not think that the 23 is so big as the TC is smaller than I will usually carry . Very nice knife though .

Harry

Different strokes. :)

All the different niches is just one of the reasons love collecting knives so much. Sticking to blades that are 2.75" - 3.25" has really helped keep my total purchases under control too, lol.

I haven't been at this nearly as long as some folks here but it didn't feel like all that long ago when there were Beer Scouts, 14s, 66s, etc. just sitting around waiting for someone to scoop 'em up. I procrastinated WAY too long on the Beer Scouts but I hemmed and hawed quite a bit on the 14s (2016) and 66s and still was able to buy one to my liking at the time.

I'd love a return to that - I am sure most of us would, but the reality, being what it is, dictates otherwise. We just have to learn to roll with it.

I agree with you folks : You can lead a horse to water , but you have to have a bucket to milk a cow . Now some recent knives . GEC did a very good job on both of these . The Pull on the 23 is around a 7 .

Harry
I led a horse to water but I could not for the life of me get him to put on his bathing suit.

Nice combo,,,pin and all.

Pàdruig Pàdruig I also remember so many 66’s around, red, green, ebony, and I only bought one! I should have purchased 20, they seem like they will never be made again.

Beer Scouts were a myth by the time I found GEC.

I hope GEC doesn’t make too many large runs, I enjoy the smaller runs mixed in, and some patterns are just not for me.

I’d like to see a dealer try a purchasing “line”. Creating a list of people who put their names in (one per household) to purchase a GEC, randomly ordered at first. Say the dealer receives 25 knives, they alert the 25 customers at the top of the list with a purchasing link or code and informing them that they have X number hours to purchase. If they decline or miss, their reserve moves to person #26 and so on. But, they keep their spot if they pass/miss or go to the bottom if they choose to purchase. Anyone could enter or drop off the list at any time. You’d have the option to, at least over time, work your way to the top and hold your spot for a knife you really want. If you’re at the bottom, there would also be advantages. Maybe a not so popular pattern comes out and makes it to you 2/3 down this list, well you would be able to buy it and wouldn’t lose as much ground on the list. Assuming said dealer is transparent on where you stand, could be a simple email saying #25 of #800 before each run for example. If there are any leftovers they can make it to the shelf as normal and purchased by anyone, including people on the list without penalty. Seems to me that it would limit a scalpers opportunity for profit along with giving everyone a fair chance in the long run. It would almost definitely be more work on a dealers part though, especially upfront. But, I think it would have advantages for them as well.
Maybe I’m missing a big flaw.

I have sold 6 figures of GEC's yearly for a decade.

Explains why you argue against any change to GECs business model that fires you.

After working on nuclear tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles for over 24 years _and_ being a knife dealer for several years ... selling and shipping knives isn't rocket science and doesn't require "1000" rules. Another tidbit to pass along ... GEC's loyal customers are fed up with this BS and GEC's lack of effective corrective action.

Did anyone happen to hear anything yet on the random draw for the barlows? The suspense is killing me but I assume no news is bad news.
If it’s the same as the last draw Mike sends an email notifying everyone that the drawing took place, the winners get notified separately.

Norcaldude Norcaldude I didn't claim to speak for _all_ loyal GEC customers. But pretty sure I own the copyright to the photo you are using without permission for your avatar. Please change it.

Sounds like a lot of work for dealers who can just sell out in 3 minutes at a fair mark up.
Without a doubt, but a couple dealers have expressed they are working or looking into doing things more fairly. A couple already making changes to try and do so.
Maybe I’m wrong, I don’t know squat about coding or running a website, but I wouldn’t presume it would take much more work than gathering names and doing random lottery. Which has been done by Mike a few times now and I believe another dealer is looking into a similar method. You also wouldn’t need to vet the list every time.

If I don't like things the way they are and can not change it , I leave it .

When I read your post I really liked the idea. As I think thru it I can tell you that it would be ripe for cheaters. Even the random draw with very clear rules attracts those that would cheat the system. The "one per household" is very hard to police; especially across drops. Flippers would have several email addresses and be careful to not use more than one on each drop so the shipping address wouldn't get flagged. It could be developed to be less prone to cheating; but there are other small issues. People would camp out at the top of the list so that you had to include them in every offer for a year until something finally came up that they wanted.

I do appreciate the post as it gives me something to think about. But I genuinely believe an increased production per cover will solve most of the problems and that sounds like Bill's plan going forward.
