Lets talk GEC!

just need to vent (okay, whine) a bit here - it will only be one post, I promise
I get it… it’s very frustrating if there’s something you want. I was hoping the scramble was Covid related, but it seems it’s just the new normal. the good news is GEC is in demand which means there’s a market for these products… but it hardly feels good when you miss out. Don’t give up hope yet! Your experience is common among all of us, so take heart. (except M mcc850 who is absolutely drowning in 15’s 🤣).
The only problem I see here is the lack of cleaning fish in your life.
Well in a week I’ll be on the Belgrade Lakes in Maine with all my gear angling to catch some white perch or trout… so we might fix that! I never cared for fish as a food, but I’m going to give it another go.

I have the worst luck with GEC!! I sign up for the emails with distributors... and then often forget to check my emails and miss the sales, etc. When I do get it right, things go from "coming soon" to "sold out" 😢. I remember there being a standing inventory on sites a while back, but now everything just goes so quickly. The recent 71s, 05s, 83s...

I have been chasing my tail for the last 2 years, any tips and tricks?

Okay. Thanks for letting me get that off my chest. Carry on...

If you get your email through your phone, i think it can alert you each time an email comes in. But itll be when every single email comes in. It might get old by the first week scrambling to get your phone open to the email when these drops dont happen often. Something i had noticed was the drops (of certain dealers) were happening around the same time of day each time. Not saying multiple dealers at the same time, but dealer x always seems to have their drop between 2-3 pacific time. But im not sure if they still do it as i dont pay attention anymore. Look through your emails and look for patterns maybe.

As soon as people started talking about the patterns, they all seemed to switch it up.

I thought for awhile, if you have two full sized blade, maybe it would be worth it if they were of different material. A stainless and a carbon (might want that divider between them) or other blade steels (not for gec though), i can imagine scenarios at would be useful at least.

i dont clean fish anymore either. I use to have a solid a fishing habit but life gets ahold of you and it doesnt happen. I do miss it though. As my kids get older, ill make sure to get out there to give them a proper childhood.

Above all else, it's the response time to the in stock emails. If you don't have a job or time that allows you access to a computer in under 5 seconds from receiving the alert, then it's just not going to happen. There's just too many people out there that are online for work that have immediate access. The knife exchange here is great. Sign up for the alerts in the knife exchange and give that a shot. Good luck

Make sure you post what your looking for in the want to buy section of the exchange. I try and check before I list stuff for sale. I’d much rather sell to a contributing member than someone stocking their bay store.

Yah stick a comb on it. And green scales. And a little shield with a duck.

Drat. I’ve wanted a 73 for a while, but have no need for a spey blade. 3-3/4” is my sweet spot, and a nice single blade would slide easy into the pocket. Ah, well. It’ll save me money at least.

If a kitsch Guitar shield is possible, then anything's possible :D

Mind you, the Beaver shield is ultra cool

Boar's or Bore's Head?

Beer and sausage is a great knife. It’s my go-to party knife. Kitsch can be fun.

Not sure if this has been posted anywhere - is “Blue Ridge” Disseminating the Remington 73s to the dealers?

I think the regular dealers are getting a share and blue ridge is distributing the rest. I assume to make them more widely available. I think one of the dealers posted some to that effect on some thread around here.

I read somewhere that blue ridge will be supplying two of the dealers. They are regular gec dealers though i cant recall which two it is

I’m heading out in the morning to fish for white perch and walleye.
