Lets talk GEC!

GEC is really brining on the heat! The 68 is about perfect for me, love the all steel and size. Since Cocobolo is the only option I wonder if it will be a larger run?
I sure hope so.
I’d be more interested in the pony if one blade was straight. Maybe the nick will be far enough back to turn the pen into a coping...
I do like a combination of straight and curved edges.

I own one White Owl, won in TLARbb TLARbb 's Christmas Eve Giveaway in 2015. I only carried it a few times. I didn't want to lose the PPP etch to patina. It's one of those knives that had me in a quandary between "It's too nice and rare a knife to use." and "It's a gift, so I'm never going to sell it anyway, so why not?"
It has developed a few pepper spots, so I'm thinking I should just put it in my pocket and use it.

The 05 keychain knives were stainless also, but those are a bit of a novelty. How do you like the stainless so far?
Too new to have an opinion at this point. I’m going to carry it and use it for the next couple days. TBD.

Definitely throw it in pocket and put it to use! That’s what it was made for.

Yes, put that thing in my (sorry) your pocket.

Bullseye! I love a knife with a straight edge and a belly in one package. The sheepfoot 15 with pen secondary is a perfect example of that. I’d love to see a 15 spear with a coping secondary at some point.

That’s right…totally forgot about that. 2 stainless runs in 1 year. Been a couple of years since they created a stainless run prior to this year hasn’t it?

The last 440C run was the 99 Wall Streets, as Pàdruig mentioned. The 89s and 5s were 420HC, if I am not mistaken.

Personally, I like GECs 440C. In addition to these, I have a stainless 42 and a 15. [EDIT TO ADD:] Incidentally, I am always on the lookout for other GECs in 440C, so let me know if you have one you'd like to unload! I am really hoping to score at least one of the 86 2ABs.

I am posting red knives, because it seems like the Porch is on fire. For months now, there have been fewer and fewer posts actually discussing knives. There is way too much inane banter and silliness. Almost as bad is the far too common long chain multi-quoting with trivial comments like “nice knife buddy,” or “great pairing.” That is what the like button is for. There is no need to comment on everything. If we do not get back to the knives, serious people will continue to drift away, and the content quality will decline even more.

I have learned a tremendous amount about knives here, and I will always appreciate that. I have also made some great friendships. There is enough drama in the real world. We do not need it here. I would rather see a person make a handful of meaningful knife related posts rather than tens of thousands of insipid ones. Let's just stick to the knives. And remember, if there is no photo it didn’t happen! Photographs add so much to posts. If your posts do not contain either photos of knives or information about knives, please think twice.
Yes, more photos, less meaningless banter…been more like a henhouse than a porch for a while (sorry, somewhat sexist reference but I can’t think of a better term right now, it’s pushing 100 degrees already and I’m in a burned out area on USFS land in Sierra). No access to my other knives, here is what I’m packing today and here is one of red goodness from my files…can’t wait until tonight when I am sitting on my own porch with a freshly popped cold one!EA575187-5F7D-4F15-88B9-62D375E481CA.jpeg03E923C5-424A-43BD-A3A4-33E75F5CDA26.jpeg

I just bought a Bail & Chain Boy's Knife and was thinking about taking off the bail and chain. I am relatively new to GEC and am looking for any guidance about how best to do this without damaging the knife. Also open to hearing whether this is a good or bad idea. Would appreciate any advice

Your knife, do as you wish. I used two pairs of needle nose pliers and was careful to pull each side of bail out in opposite directions simultaneously to avoid chipping of covers. Some folks have put a pin in hole, I mashed in walnut meat (a trick from my hunting days on how to treat a walnut rifle stock after getting a “ding” in it). Another photo from files…have to look closely for the former hole:94FA25A8-8D16-4132-BD2A-0F8896A8CCAE.jpeg
