Lets talk GEC!

I don’t believe they use cutlery rivets like the one pictured when I have taken them apart they appear to be the same as the regular pins and seem to be assembled using the same process. They are however significantly thicker at probably 1/8th inch and stronger (they’re mild steel). They are the most difficult knives to take apart specifically because of that pin. When it’s hammered together the heads of the pin seem to really spread out and create a head due to the design of the birds eye pivot. I definitely have not seen any evidence of it being a two piece rivet.
You are right. The picture of the 99 and of the 62 i've posted shows a difference.
The pivot of the 62 seems to be a cutlery rivet. Material, same size of the head on each side.
The pivot of the 99 is different. On the mark side it seems we have a nail head laying on a washer. On the pile side it looks like the tip has been mushroomed to sit on a washer. The mushroomed tip is a bit smaller than the head on the mark side.
It's a rivet, a "classic" one, not a cutlery one.
It's possible GEC has changed the type of riveting to ease the manufacturing and have more consistant results.
One of the two 99 i've handled was very tight and the breaking in took time.
The four 62 i own are all the same, perfect in every way.

Being an old geezer, I have plenty of time in my day to ease my blade(s) home...... I do have a beater knife that I occasionally let the blade fly home with impunity....... Doing that reminds me of the old days of revving the Hemi to 4K and dumping the clutch...... It is very exhilarating, and I have to limit the frequency of doing so, as the excitement throws my pacemaker into chaos......
This made me laugh out loud early in the morning! 😁 🤓
Sounds like a great memory!:cool::thumbsup:

Thanks Gary!.... The old days were a lot of fun..... The nice thing about memories is I can relive events without the consequences of the real McCoy...... Clutches, driveshafts and differentials got expensive...... Now I ease the gearshift into D and puttz over to the senior center.......

Just out of curiosity, what Hemi car(s) did you have?

Oh, yeah! I’m sure you’re right, I haven’t even owned or handled one of the farm and field 62’s let alone taken one apart. The 62 whittler I got was one of the pocket carvers with bolsters.

I knew I was getting old when I decided the stock pipes on a Harley I bought from a friend several years back sounded OK.

3 aces and the pattern is the 88.

Aces and 8’s is a full house. Also known as the deadman’s hand. A stockman would make the 88 a full house. And maybe the 3 blade will be a “spey” blade. Spey sounds a lot like “spade” which is what is missing.
So are you thinking the 88 will be a 3 blade stockman instead of a 2 blade trapper, or in addition to it? Your thoughts are creative though and may have some merit. Now, what's with the footprints and trash can?

Turns out. The deadman’s hand was 2 aces and 2 eights. Not a full house but two pair. Fwiw wild Bill Hickok was murdered while holding this hand.
