Lets talk GEC!

When the #05 Keychain happenned in July 2021 I reckoned that was it for Stag, because Bill was using up the smaller scraps he still had.

However, we got more Stag on the White Owl (739) that November, then on Yankee Barlows (291) and Shaffer Farm Whittlers (492) in 2022.

So I'm hoping the Sambar Stagfest isn't quite over yet.

I think the yankee barlows were stag that had been collected by knife collectors.

Back in the old days...you could dither
over a GEC on a dealer site for months...even years..as I did with this 08 #36 sunfish..it just sat there for nearly 2 years...until I nabbed it....That just doesnt happen anymore....the worst part are the ones that got away....Primitive Bone Canoe for one...Ebony #12 was another...the stupid part is I could afford them ...financially......but...it's an addiction.
Heres the pumpkin seed and carved pumpkin...the fixed blade is a new zealand knife I won in a giveaway by @Festerfromnz ...Fes went m.i.a. years ago...the sheath was made by Al Dodge.
Hope yer well Bro.

Yep, I remember having a well known dealer take pics of a particular model (they had ten in stock) and have them sent to me so I could choose the one I wanted. The only ones still sitting on dealer shelves nowadays is the Key Chain #05.

Years from now people will be saying - "I remember when the 05 keychain could be purchased at anytime, so I waited, now they are all gone. I should have bought one when I had the chance."

Never really understood the continuing dislike for the 05.
-It is a small keychain knife, slightly bigger blade than a victorinox classic, in SS so it does not need any special care, with stag, and reasonably low cost. Comes with a sheath. Can do anything a knife of that size is expected to do. The 14s are not much bigger.

You do not even have to use it on a chain, as for some reason GEC models with a chain are not liked that much.
It was made in large numbers, so there was never any need to step over each other to get one. (seems to be low on "I stayed up all week and managed to snag one" bragging rights.

I wonder if people feel obliged to dislike them. :)

Seems to me that they should be held in the same regard as the Case Peanut or the Case Swayback. That being said I was also one of them that didn’t pick it up. So there’s that.

The lambsfoot is big on my list now because it is a keychain knife just realized it to late.

I don't, but I can see what you mean. I rotate the 05, Vic Classic, LB1 (currently missing) on keys.

To me, the 05 is fine for what it is. I prefer the Classic and LB1, but they're all just varying degrees of goodness to me.
Well nothing really beats the SDC of course, and the peanut and the swayback has its history, but a small lambsfoot with a keychain is real handy and being made my GEC should be given higher praise. I like your can opener👍

JonesJorgen JonesJorgen , I agree, I have one of those 05’s as well. On the key ring is my dad’s P38 Vietnam Era, been on my keys since I’ve had keys. Very useful. Thanks again.

One note: it's a sheepsfoot, not a lambsfoot. I think if it had a lambsfoot blade it would have sold out.

Don't dislike the 05 but not really seen the point of it? Keychain knives should be of material - delrin, metal you don't mind getting messed up, Stag doesn't deserve that :) That said , if anybody would like to send me theirs I'll not take offence ;) Looking for decent slabs though ...😜

The new DLT sfo with a clip would be a real beauty queen. Not that the spear is bad, I just want a clip if I'm only getting one blade.

amen, some time ago, i had bought a deleted 54 with a clip. im not too keen on this particular spear as GEC spears ago, it seems a bit narrow to me. Some days I wish I kept that modded 54, how ever then I remember it was big in hand. Now a single clip 35...
