Lets talk GEC!

I'd be careful using the new shadow versions as a caplifter. My Red Slipper acrylic has been used in this way with no issue, BUT there is no scale material exposed at the opener. With the shadow pattern I'd be nervous about chipping out a piece of it around the heel.

Someone will have to report on how much spring is exposed to protect the covers. I plan to get one, so maybe it'll be me haha

I don't know, that Bird's Eye pivot looks like some kind of artificial leg construction......

I swore I wouldn't buy a french Kate, but when I saw that american patriot acrylic, I fell like a lovestruck teen. That's one I just had to have.

I must say I am a little disappointed. Although I doubt I would ever have bought one, the lady leg is a classic old (and quintessentially American) pattern.

Bill's first iteration was done extremely well. The shoe fitted perfectly. The pin at the ankle a delicate jewel of an accent and the inside line of the bolster at knee joint brought to mind the hem of a garment.

As much as I am a fan of GECs acrylic, I don't understand the thinking behind this one. Perhaps, as others have mentioned, it was a throw back to the cheaper advertising knives commissioned by firms over the years. To me though, this latest effort misses the charm of the first. I would love to hear Bill's personal take on it :)

OK, I received mine today. My brother took the better of the pair he ordered. but min is a lot nicer than I expected. It is very light in weight. Blade is nice and sharp. But, I do have reservations about using it to open bottles. Maybe I'll order on of the other colors and try it out. Maybe not. Not sure how strong this acrylic is. Perhaps, Derrick will open a few bottles for us.
Any way, here is a few pics. I hope they are good enough.

I love the star.

Mike

Some of them were in fact advertising knives. ;)

Was this one intended to be a bottle opener too? Or is it just a figural knife?

I really wanted to get the Pithole Anniversary knives, but their markup is just uncalled for imo. I still might get the Ben Hogan.

Maybe the best way to find out would be to call Mr. Howard?

Called GEC this morning. Told them that my Northfield #73 LL started with a hard pull, and instead of breaking in, it is now impossible to open. Without hesitation they said, "send it in and we will make it right". Mailed if off, will report when its returned.

I think the previous answer still stands. They have shown no interest in tooling for that jigging themselves. But nobody has the fortitude to start guessing at what GEC might do in the future ;)

I am sorry to hear that. I would love to see some corn cob jigging on a GEC. I'm still waiting for another run of a long pull spear boys knife in ebony though.

Woodrow, Im still waiting on that one myself. Im also waiting for a Northfield 73 single with a long match-strike pull in African Blackwood. I bet we will see the 15 first though. :D

On a side note; Im waiting for GEC to make a display case as well :D

Uhm I didn't even know they had that. Awesome! Thank you.

Doh. I think I read that wrong. You were wanting that:o

:D Yea Im just slow today. I just editd my post to correct my lack of comprehension
