The IVth edition is the last one Bernie did. They did not renew his option! The publisher did a 5th which is crap!! A later one is a little better. How valid is the Guide to knives, for knives produced outside the US (Uk, Germany, Italy, France, Japan etc.) or for knives produced after 2001 (when a lot of companies started major traditional production - GEC for example, and various Italians)
Is there a new edition coming out soon?
I do not have the book and I am thinking about getting one.
Not necessarily, but as long as the approximate bolster proportions are correct!!!We shall call a short bolstered barlow a Baby Barlow then. As a testimony to all these discussions we spin off it here.

Can we see the caplifter?Gotta share at least one pic of a 71 on 7/1, right? I know many were not the biggest fan of this model, but I think it was a stroke of genius to add a cap-lifter while keeping the overall thickness the same.

For sure! Here’s the cap lifter and the tang stamp. Sorry about the bad lighting…Can we see the caplifter?
BTW, is that knife from 2022?

This is one of the 2022 knives that they did in green micarta. Just stumbled across it one day and had to have it, you know how it goes

Those were really nice knives,I was advised to put away my 85 cap lifter/fire pit knife and get the 21 to which I agreed but I found my Bannock grabbers were not quick enough on the exchange,I'm not a big micarta fan but they work on the 71,now a jigged bone maybe.I wonder if anyone can do a pic of 71 #71s on 7/1?![]()
17 of ‘em might be more doable, if we use the day-month-year format like the rest of the world and today was 1/7. But then we wouldn’t be doing #71s, would we?
GEC did a nice job on those Sudbusters!

They even thinned the scales out enough that they’re actually thinner than the single blade Bull Noses!

Dang, now that you mention it a F&F in Osage would be a natural match that I’d love to see! I’d really love to see a 71 or a 47 done with the stuff. Maybe one day…However, a wood handled version could be very desirable too and if say Osage Orange were used it would be tough & reliable
Meanwhile, in the "2024 releases" section.View attachment 2604266
They weren't on the cover, were they?
I like the looks of this, I think the cap lifter is an extra bonus. For sure! Here’s the cap lifter and the tang stamp. Sorry about the bad lighting…

Thinner than liners on the Bunny knife?theyve been thinning out the liner stock as well for those whove held the new 39s, theyre surprisingly slim
