Nice collection of sleeveboard barlows. I believe Robeson made some as well.Utica made a lot of round-bolstered Barlows!!
They made them for several other companies also!! In the first pic, you see Schrade Cut Co, Utica's Kutmaster brand, and Case XX!!! There is a Ka-Bar in the second pic!!
All made by Utica!!

I’m not sure. I do think that longer or shorter bolsters would have looked better though. Not saying it looks bad as is butDoes bolster length matter in any way except aesthetics? The 78 bolsters seem a tad short for true “Barlow” status (unlike those gorgeous Uticas) but realistically it might make for a knife that’s a little lighter and equally as strong?
But think of the positive, you might miss out on the drop. With my luck GEC will do the exact knives in a single blade right after![]()
Thanks Barrett!!Some beauties there, Charlie!
They are sort of like sleeveboards, but a TRUE sleeveboard should have a defining taper to the handle pattern!! More evidence that pattern definitions get torqued around!!! Ha Ha!!Nice collection of sleeveboard barlows. I believe Robeson made some as well.
If it's not equal end and it's not sleeveboard then what is it? Much like the length of the bolster of a barlow is not defined the taper of a sleeveboard is also not defined. It certainly leaves alot of room for the cutler to work their craft. They are sort of like sleeveboards, but a TRUE sleeveboard should have a defining taper to the handle pattern!! Or their terminology!!It certainly leaves alot of room for the cutler to work their craft.
According to Levine, a “regular jack" (see p. 177If it's not equal end and it's not sleeveboard then what is it?
Regular Jacks have squared corners at the blade end. (See p. 179According to Levine, a “regular jack" (see p. 177).
So there is no term for those knives?Or their terminology!!
